I'm gonna waste my first post on this...
Ever had a dear friend who had outrageous beliefs that you didn't subscribe to but you loved that person for other reasons?

Ever had a parent who had ideas that made you cringe but you loved them anyway?

Ever had a friend who did a terrible thing and you told them so but supported them out of loyalty?

Ever know someone who had a lot of good qualities but some really bad ones too?

Human beings and human relationships are complicated things that should not be reduced to a sound bite.

I'm not condoning Obama's Reverend but I'm not condemning Obama's restraint in dealing with a media circus.

I'm going to wait and see what Obama says tonight before I rush to judgment.

And PS: The world is falling down around our ears and we're hyperventilating about some wingnut minister. Just what the Repubs want, I think.

It's worth thinking about even though I'm a little disturbed by Wright..

Since when is a candidate responsible for the words that come out of every supporter's mouth.

...brought up now.

8. I've Never Run For President And Been At Risk Of A Smear Campaign That Could Torpedo My GE Chances,
either.

This isn't about how we feel. It's about how effectively it could be used against him in the GE. It's gonna take one hell of an effort on his part to neutralize this. Let's hope he does...

13. How about he spends the next three days on all major media
talking about his personal relationship with his Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ and how Wright is a good guy but sometimes nuts

Now he gets to take down two problems at the same time - the Muslim one and the Wright one.

Whatever people think about Obama, in general, I think it is clear by this point that most everybody, myself included, have

significantly underestimated this cat.

I could be wrong but its almost like he's playing 3 demensional chess while the rest of the field is playing checkers.

14. I Was Very Pleased To Hear He's Got So Many Scheduled Appearances.
That means he's taking it seriously, like we all should.

I guess what bothers me most, is that even if this goes away now, and we all feel comfortable that it's been disposed of, that all of a sudden in the GE it will rear its head again via one hell of a manipulative ad. I just can't shake that damn image in my head.

But I think if he handles it as well tonight as I'm thinking he will, it will put me at ease a bit more as to his capability to do the same in the GE.

18. The General Election is going to be a lot easier
in some ways

1) They have tons of nutty and I mean seriously insane pastors that McCain is seeking their endorsements

2) When they get to personal shit the McCains have a ton that they have already admitted to - I mean stealing from a charity to support your drug habit after you destroyed documents for the Keating 5 and then had the whistle blower fired???? That puppy is already on the record and isn't going to just run away.

Please remember that we are going to run our candidate against someone and they have public relation problems up the kazoo-

quotes from respected Republicans wondering if this guy should have his finger on the button??

And this time we are going to have tens of millions in our own 527s.

I am not taking anything for granted - just saying we are not going to be running against a saint - the guy with the least

amount of baggage among the three is Obama.

20. It's not going to be easy
But to take a sports analogy we have a really good match up

like the wives thing - Michelle is a loose cannon Cindy McCain is a 5 ton anchor and so on

But there is one aspect of the whole GE campaign that no one talks about.

Why has Obama had easy elections. Part of it is dumb luck. Part of it he cheats - honestly.

By that I mean he doesn't show up with the same old voting base he goes out and registers hundreds of thousands of extra voters.

After Edwards quit FrenchieCat sent me this article and I just thought holy shit if this guy can do in the Ohio, Florida, Virginia

and all of the other states what he did in Chicago this is gonna be something special.

http://www.chicagomag.com/Chicago-Magazine/January-1993/Vote-of-Confidence/

And now we hear rumors out of Pennsylvania that the Obama campaign is looking to add 100,000 new voters before March 24th.

I live in Cunningham's (guy in jail) district one of the really secure Repbulican districts in the country. I am thinking I can't

really do anything for Obama but if I become a registrar and just go out and register folks in poor neighborhoods during the summer

Obama will get them to the polls and maybe we can bring down a republican congressman. I figure I can register a couple of thousand

folks during the summer.

I'm not my brother's keeper. I can't exercise mind control. My friends and loved ones are complicated people. After all, if you look at some of the crap that gets said on DU, should it reflect on me or you, for that matter, that we come here?

12. That's it!
I'm not voting for Wright!
Oh wait... It's Obama that's running. Never mind
Wright has said some very true things in very stupid ways and some plain old stupid things but he's not running for office and he isn't on the campaign. I hate to think I'd be judged by things my friends have said over the last 20 years (I've had some questionable friends, comes with a misspent youth) and I wont judge Obama by Wright.

If it turns out he knew and participated in speeches Wright gave and has lied about it I'll rethink my support. Until then Gobama!

And to think I wasted my 3rd DU post on you 1st subject post!

16. Happens all the time.
You run into somebody that talks crazy but you humor them, show them compassion, listen intently to them crying out in the wilderness knowing you can't take them seriously.

Some people are that tolerant and care enough about people in general, even the wackos, to not show dismissiveness or arrogance.

K&R.
