I see the Wright issue as a potential opportunity for Obama
There are a lot of Obama supporters who are expressing their fear of this issue. But If he can go on TV like he is doing tonight and speak out on it over the next several days, maybe even working it into his stump speech, he may surprise a lot of people by making a silk purse out of a sow's ear.

I don't mean to sound like a Pollyanna, but sometimes he can work magic spells that I haven't seen any other candidates have the ability to do. If he can make a positive out of it I think it will convince a lot of people that he is ready for prime time who may have had doubts about it.

Now wouldn't that be a kick in the ass to those who injected this nonsense into the campaign to hurt him?

1. He'll do it, I have no doubt.
I have never seen ANYONE whose campaign was as skilled at turning attacks around.
Black belts in political Aikido.

7. Agreed.
I was thinking of it as political jiu jitsu... but aikido fits better. Turn your enemy's own energy against them.

3. Impossible.
He's been sitting in that church for twenty years. Obama will have to explain, somehow, that he just wasn't aware of Wright's hate-mongering sermons. If he can't do that, then he'll have to explain why he continued to bring his children into that shameful environment.

Obama CHOSE Wright's church. And he CHOSE to continue going.

My opinion is that he can't get out of this.

5. People listen to sermons they don't agree with all the time
Just ask any pro choice Catholics.

Maybe you will be right, but watching this guy over the past several months I think he can pull it off, and if he does, then he'll even wind up with a bump going into PA and those who raised this subject will be kicking themselves.

The silver tongued devil has a whole bunch of free airtime coming up on the tube. My bet is that he can do it.

8. he has to walk a careful line.
if he goes overboard saying wright is full of shit, it begs a significant question as to why the hell he spent 20 years listening a tithing to it. he could also risk alienating some in the black community (along with those who appear to believe that wright is the bees' knees)...
