A Few Good Analogies of the Wright Issue |
|
Edited on Fri Mar-14-08 06:23 PM by Drachasor
Saying Barack should have never had any dealings with Wright is silly.
It's like saying a pro-choice catholic isn't allowed to go to his Church if his minister rarely gives an anti-abortion speech.
It's like saying that an evangelical businessman can't go to his Church if rarely his preacher gives a speech about how greed and the rich are destroying America. Mostly however, he says good and true things.
In short, it is saying that if your priest/minister/etc EVER says something outrageous to your personal beliefs, you should drop him and abandon your Church. Mostly, however, he says good and true things.
It is also like saying if you have an adviser and mentor in college whom you respect, you aren't allowed to respect them if they have ANY radical or wrong beliefs.
It is demanding perfection not only from a politician, but everyone he respects, admires, or likes, even if he almost always gives good advice and is a source of wisdom. This is a ludicrous standard.
That's my opinion on the matter, at any rate.

1. It is guilt by association, though many if not most people are guilty of it themselves |

2. Obviously. We should try to be better than that, however. |
|
Seems like a lot of people on here think guilt by association is just fine.

7. Unless of course it is "their" candidate's associations, then they say |
|
we shouldn't condemn someone because of someone elses views

9. I don't think Hillary should be condemned because of the views of her friends either (or McCain) |
|
Now it is a slightly if the person is a member of the campaign. At that point, the person should leave the campaign to make clear those views don't represent the views of the campaign (that's in part a clarity issue).
Certainly, the candidate needs to (reject and) denounce such statements and viewpoints. It has to be made clear they do not hold such views.

4. It is like using logic instead of the political microscope that is the primaries |
|
You make excellent points. I am concerned, however, that asking people to use their brains is sometimes beyond the pale.

5. First, learn to spell 'analogies' ... |
|
... then apply that same standard to Hillary Clinton.

8. You're right ... I make them everyday. |

I have no problem with disagreement on issues as long as it is fair and honest. Same critical eye, same standards, etc.
Have a good evening. :hi:
