The question isn't his views, I don't think they are genuinely at issue --- it is his JUDGMENT in his associations that are the matter at hand. His association with this church, and this pastor, and this pastor's words, thoughts, language, are issues, like it or not. Especially when Obama calls him a spiritual advisor and mentor, someone he consults when he has difficult issues to contend with.

Why is he trying so hard to play both sides against the middle? It's hypocritical at a minimum.

If you hang around an ice cream store, people figure you like ice cream. He gave twenty five grand to this church just last year. That's not chickenfeed--that's not a dollar or three in the plate, either.

One has to ask, what was he THINKING? And where was his "crack" staff who are supposed to be so jazzy and well-organized? Didn't they do their OWN oppo research? Did they think they'd always get a free ride? Were they overconfident?

This is only the latest of SEVERAL associations that are problematic.

It's JUDGMENT.

And, yes, you did get one thing right-- it is 'guilt by association.' Because his ASSOCIATION with this guy, over twenty years and hundreds of thousands of dollars in donations, suggests that he isn't overwhelmingly put off by the intemperate quality of the messages the man transmits.

There's a fine line between EMPOWERMENT and DENIGRATION OF OTHERS. Rev. Wright crossed that fine line. You don't bring up one group by putting down another--that's a cheapass, cheesy way of "inspiring" people. Identity politics, or identity exhortation, is one thing, but you don't get your PRIDE from insulting others. Unless you're a bit dull of comprehension and bereft of truly uplifting ideas.
