Well new good news
Norway will be pulling its troops out on June 30th, and the current Danish Government is having a major crisis for having gone to Iraq by presenting doctored intelligence.

3. good news? less people helping share burden with our soldiers just isn't..
Edited on Fri Apr-23-04 09:39 PM by codegreen
good news... i personally feel a little uncomfortable with such an assessment.

maybe not my business, just felt to say so... it is complicated...

i'm no hawk, i protested the war... but i must say i have mixed feelings over calling this 'good news'

12. Hey, that's one of my points!
The other being, we broke it, we fix it. Norway is under no obligation to protect us or fix Iraq, and certainly not to protect some non-existent democracy.

27. If an arsonist torched your house, would you let him rebuild it?
Sure, we broke it, but that does NOT uniquely qualify the US as the country to "fix it".

The US and UK maintained the cruel sanctions against Iraq all through the 90s, even AFTER they obeyed UN sanctions, which killed 500,000 innocent Iraqi children. We have utterly failed to bring any sense of order to the country, and have done more to spur on radical Islamists than ANYTHING we've done elsewhere.

The US broke it, and should certainly pay to fix it. However, we are NOT the ones who should do the fixing. Leave that to a neutral third party who has absolutely NO interest in the outcome of the "fixing".

Otherwise, we'll still be in the same horrible situation we're in now.

9. It is good news.
The more pressure placed on the bushies the more leverage we and the world community have in forcing these bastards and they corporate masters to back off their plans for world domination.

Cheers to the Norwegians!

Edited on Fri Apr-23-04 10:19 PM by codegreen
is sick.
it is difficult to comment on, and other countries troops are of course theirs to do with as they will...
but for us at DU to be cheering it on doesn't sit well with me

16. Norway is putting pressure on American troops?
You keep claiming that this puts pressure on our troops. If you really believe that, why won't you defend it with an argument instead of finding some way to re-phrase it?

Unless Norway is performing some critical function that the US can't do itself, and I really, really, doubt that, then the only thing putting pressure on our troops is Bush*'s unwillingness to pay the bill for it.

So let's accuse other nations for our blunders. It's not like it never happens in Bush*'s America.

20. So now, Norway is "isolating" our troops?
We've about 130,000 troops there. Try another word to describe what Norway is doing. Maybe someday, you'll find an appropriate one.

What's really sick is the sanctimony you feel over a supposed failing that you can't even name.

17. you can..
point fingers at everyone else all day. the bottom line is Bush and his elitist henchmen sent these kids in. This is bush's mess, and so long as the son of a bitch is playing emperor and imperialist shill for the mega corps, no one else should be expected to share any responsibility (except for the brits, of course). Once bush decides to kick halliburton and its mercenaries out and attempt to make amends with the rest of the world, perhaps the rest of the world will be more willing to find a resolution. Bush's way isn't going to work and puts everyone at greater risk.

21. It looks like yet again, you are avoiding logic to blame others
for some misperceived moral failing.

You keep repeating that Norway is under some sort of moral obligation to stay, but when challenged, you repeatedly change your story.
