I love John Kerry but I sure do like www.johnkerryisadouchebag... |

butimvotingforhimanyway.com
I think that the author does a wonderful job explaining John Kerry and gives very decent commentary on the political atmosphere.
It is a must read for all democrats. I love John Kerry and will dance in the streets when he is our new president. If anyone reading this does not share this feeling with me, I suggest you check out this site.

The one article the author has tried to convince us that perceived instances of Kerry being a douche bag are overplayed. But does his conclusion hold up?
1. Kerry riding a motorcycle onto the "Tonight Show." How is trying to have some fun on primetime television being a douche? Kerry didn't do anything jerky or inappropriate, unless you find riding a motorcycle in leather jerky and inappropriate in itself. Doesn't hold with me. Verdict: Not Guilty (of being a douche bag)
2. Bush's lies and intentional misconceptions he's telling the public about Kerry's so-called waffling. But this is Bush being a douche, not Kerry. Verdict: Not Guilty
3. Kerry's name-calling after somebody knocked him over skiing. I think the author makes a good argument that I agree with: sure, wasn't terribly classy nor Presidential, but no big deal. However, calling someone an S.O.B. for knocking you down is kind of a douche bag thing to do. Verdict: Guilty
4. Kerry saying foreign leaders support his campaign against the President. Yes, Kerry should have supplied names, or not said anything at all. An appeal to authority without actually telling us who the authority is doesn't work. Verdict: Guilty
5. Bush's propaghanda-esque commercials the distort the facts. This is Bush being a douche, not Kerry. See #2. Verdict: Not Guilty
So I think the author makes a point. The only real douche bag thing that Kerry seems to be guilty of (at least that the author cited) is #4 (#3 is too insignificant to matter).
All five points are well argued by the author. Kudos!

3. Tell Bush to name the leaders that do support him..... |
|
That would be a short list...except for Israel.

5. If a driver had cut him off... |
|
and he'd called him an s.o.b., would that be a douchebag? And why can't he say he's spoken to leaders who want Bush out of office? Since when is a U.S. Senator required to reveal private conversations?
5 counts. Not Guilty. I haven't been to the site and don't think I'll bother if it's just a rehash of rw talking points.

6. The Harley stunt was actually kinda "douchey" |
|
A 60 year old man trying to be Fonzie?? Obviously he was trying to replicate the success with the younger crowd that Clinton got from his mid - campaign appearance on the Arsenio Hall show in 1992. Maybe he should have brought his guitar instead?
Also, Clinton was able to connect under those circumstances because it was the first time a lot of people saw him on TV. Kerry doesn't have that luxury, being not only a senator, but somewhat of a celebrity even before then, going back to his national press exposure as a Vietnam vet/protestor (which we are all being reminded of on a daily basis by the media)
But even then, Kerry preferred sailboats to Harleys, so why fake it?

I'd actually prefer people didn't think he was a douche bag, but getting Kerry elected is more important than how he is preceived (see people saying Kerry and Bush are not very different, even though Kerry is ranked the #1 liberal in the Senate)
