Why isn't the Environment a BIG issue in 2004 election? |
|
Democrats hold such a huge advantage, why don't wee hammer it in more? The environment is an issue that historically has favored, and Kerry has a near perfect record from CV.
Is it the media's suppression of Bush environmental horror stories?
What do you think?

|
but people will listen. You are correct, the Dems need to counter with tons of Bush fuck ups re this aspect.

I drives me f*cking nuts to see Bush stealing the environmental issue from the Democrats. RFK Jr. called him the "worst environmental president EVER!"

3. because if Bush uses nukes, it won't matter anyway. |
|
I care very much about the eco system, but to tell you the truth, if Bush gets another four, the enviornment is the least of my worries, there won't be a livable planet when he gets through nuking the non-christian world. However, it should be a concern for people with children, even repugs have to share the air we democrats fight so hard to keep their little bastard lungs breathing. The Bush envoirnment plan: drill, drill, drill, consume, consume, consume.

8. The problem with the Bush E Plan is they are drilling into the hull of our |
|
LIFEBOAT called Earth.
They are doing much too much damage without thought for our children of the future. How selfish can this man get?

13. Its called "Raping Mother Nature". The Pubs are noted for this |
|
Edited on Sun Apr-25-04 08:57 PM by opihimoimoi
Go see Hubert Flottz of WEST VIRGINNY on this DU Board.
The removal of mountains to strip mine coal is an abomination. Over the years, too many deaths, too many polluted streams, pond, lakes, and rivers caused by greed and selfishness. Those mine owners are mostly Pub and heavy contributors to Bush.
The Pubs, They care little of the long term damage to Mother. In the end, we will pay a heavy price as Mother will unleash untold horrors onto our children. Already we are paying a heavy price, but it will get worse.
Erin Brockovich? Remember her? Go see the Movie. and thats only one story, there are tons more.

4. I think it's because most of the environment has been |
|
getting better for more than 20 years...
The air quality if better, the water quality is better, ozone levels are down, forested acreage is growing, etc.
The major negative is greenhouse gases, which continue to grow.

He has undone everything that caused them to improve over the last 20 years. Read RFK Jr's article in Rolling Stone to find out more about it. http://www.commondreams.org/views03/1120-01.htm

One in particular.... and Indian friend who speaks at schools, using Indian stories to emphasize how important environmental concerns are. He is PASSIONATE about the issue.
Yet, he's a Republican, and voted for Bush, and likely will again.
About a month ago, I posted here asking for help finding good articles to give him, but this is the best one I've seen, so I thank you for posting it. He needs to hear particulars, and just how bad it really is. Unfortunately, I'm afraid tht he will dismiss it because it's by a Kennedy, but.... gonna send it to him anyway.
Too often we circulate these sorts of things among each other.... preaching to the choir. What we NEED to do is share them with people who just aren't getting the picture.
Thanks again.

14. Guys like Rash Limpdick is telling everyone GW is not for real. |
|
Been doing it for years. That man is killing our Earth with his comments.
If there ever was a need for a World Court to try assholes like Rash, this is a good enough reason. Unfortunately, the Pub system in play prevents this. I wonder why.

17. Kerry should hammer this issue after the release of the movie... |
|
"Day after Tomorrow" on May 28. See a thread in LBN on NASA's attempt to "muzzle" government scientists who might speak to the press after the disaster film's release: http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_mesg&forum=102&topic_id=508761&mesg_id=508761

18. Kerry is making it a big issue and part of his campaign which it is |
|
it's not a top issue for many people. but kerry has to show how being pro environment connects to issues such as jobs, health care, and national security. especially jobs and health care where it directly affects people and they can understand it better.

19. It's simply not a wedge issue anymore |
|
Basically the country has come to some modicum of consensus because it's not jobs vs nice places anymore. It's richer corporate executives vs places an increasingly urbanized population needs as a respite as rural populations diminish. So W is forced into these wierd hypocrisies.
Part of the reason is that most of best timber of the U.S. has already been cut and the best coal and ores have already been mined, and the best lands have been taken for farming and ranching. But need for farming land is falling because of increases in yield and surpluses, and sinking demand for cattle is leading to ranching lands being given up. Furthermore, American demand for metals and timber and such is now being met by clearcutting British Columbia and Quebec and parts of Siberia, and strip mining in places like Borneo.

Seriously though, the Dems need to hammer this one home.
I'm sick of Bush lying about all he's done for the environment.
