Do people still think Obama is conservative?
I'm curious if the people who kept trying to point Obama as a conservative feel the same way after the campaign has continued and in the light of the Rev. Wright comments getting more attention.

I saw a lot of guilt by association games when the Edwards campaign tried to do an online underground swift boating of Obama painting him as a conservative. Do the same guilt by association games apply here? Does this make Obama a radical left winger?

4. Don't forget anti-American. Plus, he's the Antichrist
Scary thing is, I see places where people believe all of this stuff at face value. It's like they've never seen a single speech or debate yet they know everything.

3. I'm confused...
Left leaning conservative centrist with radical ties to a conservative religion with a history of activism (and he still might be a Muslim) and no connection to deeply held American principles. He's too black to be white, too white to be black.

He's doomed, it's just all too confusing. Give up. Run away.

He's sure as hell not perfect, but he is good. I'll take that, for now.

11. You don't think Rev Wright is religiously progressive?
Really? Is that what you're saying? Is it that you think ALL churches are conservative?

Liberation theology on one end and looney sex obsession, narrow minded and divisive and rants on the other.
Progressive? No.

21. I alsp do - but I don't care about Wright - just the social programs that don't cost
because per Obama's economic adviser speaking to Kudkow on CNBC - the Obama folks do not expect them to pass.

8. LOL - I am an Obama supporter and I keep telling people he's a raging liberal.
They don't believe me because he doesn't wear it on his sleeve. That's his genius. Oh - and he listens, to other points of views. Shocking!! ;-)

10. Yeah, its funny that some people think
that the act of sitting down and talking to a Republican makes someone conservative. Wow.

9. Actually, I do feel he is, at least compared to me.
he's not "A" conservative in the right wing sense, but he is a very safe pick policy wise, as is Hillary. To me that's being conservative, especially at a time in history when we need some daring leadership. But America isn't ready for THAT particular conversation yet. Maybe when Miami is a few feet under water we'll get around to it.

13. "Most liberal voting record" in the Senate for the little time he was there not campaigning....
...this is the kiss of death as far as middle America is concerned. Kerry got tarred and feathered with a similar label, but his was over years.

15. I don't see him as an ideologue particularly
His basic principles seem liberal to me. His organizing approach is of the left. But he can take moderate stances when it works best to get something done. Basically, he is a pragmatic idealist and is about problem-solving. Not so easy to label, which is something I like about him.

17. I think that's about right.
Its an approach that reflects his background as a community organizer which focuses on getting things done by building consensus.

18. He's a run of the mill "moderate" politics as usual politician.
Trying, as politicians do, to play both sides simultaneously.

The differences between he and hillary on the issues are minuscule, thus we are condemned to endure the mudslinging rather than debates.

19. I understand that Hillary moved left
in advance of the primary because she knew it would be necessary. And Obama uses themes that appeal to moderates because he knows a real liberal has to do that to get elected. But if you think both candidates are the same then I think you missed something about one or both of them.

that they would find out how liberal he really is when the Republicans start attacking him. He will be the most liberal nominee the party has had in a long time.
