Donating: Kerry or MoveOn? |
|
I convinced the wife to let me donate some money to our efforts recently. However, seeing what Kerry is doing, and not, I'm tempted to donate half to Kerry and half to MoveOn. I'm thinking of calling the campaign and telling them so that maybe they will start fighting back more. What does everyone think? At least the moveon ads have teeth eh?

2. Good idea about the letter, though I doubt they read it or respond |
|
They haven't responded to any of my concerns. I would donate all the money to moveon. They support Kerry, but also the progressive agenda. If that is most important to you support them.

5. I think that is a great idea ... |
|
MoveOn is spending about $115,000 to run their newest ad on both CNN and Faux, but only the NYC and Washington DC markets. I'm sure the more they get, the more markets they can have their ads run.

7. Kerry now, moveon.org latter |
|
Kerry won't be able to accept donations after the convention, at least that is how I understand it. So it might make sense to donate to him now, and to moveon.org latter.
Of course, you can always

8. I absolutely agree with doing "half and half." |
|
Of course we need to help Kerry evict the Chimperor from the WH in November. But at the same time, as I've said before and will keep repeating to everyone who'll listen, we also need to build up a network of activist organizations, think tanks and media outlets to give us a solid foundation, exactly as the Right did.

11. MoveOn now, Kerry after September 1 |
|
Edited on Mon Apr-26-04 12:51 PM by sybylla
when orgs like MoveOn may be silenced by McCain-Feingold. At least that's my plan. I decided to let MoveOn teach the Dems to speak out and speak up first. Bringing the Dems out of the margins benefits all Dem candidates, not just Kerry.

12. Can't donate to Kerry after September |
|
The way I understand it is that after both conventions....there is only public financing for both candidates... ....So, you need to donate to Kerry before the repugs convention in Sept.

If Kerry takes the $75 million in July, that's the end of contributions. People need to donate to Kerry now and to others later. Unless they really like the new Moveon ad and want to donate on that specifically, which I understand.

Moveon can take very big soft money donations (they just got three million from a very small amount of donors). Kerry on the other hand, can only spend as much as he can raise in 2,000 chunks and less. Smaller donations are important for showing grass-roots support. Kerry by a mile.

MoveOn will probably convince more people to vote for Kerry than Kerry will.
