My Brand New Car
My wife and I marched today in protest of a war that we have been protesting for over five years. The turnout was disappointing in number, but it was the missing faces that really disturbed me. Since my first peace demonstration in January 2003 I have gotten to know many of the people in our community who were willing to speak up against Bush and his war even before the lies were laid bare. Not seeing many of those faces today worries me. Have they given up or are they content to let the clock run out on this nightmare? I did see some new faces, some refreshing young faces, and most of them proclaimed their support of Barack Obama. It really wasn’t a political event but, as we were leaving, we found the table set up by the Obama supporters and picked up some Obama '08 bumper stickers. The disastrous 2004 election coincided with a family tragedy and I have stubbornly refused to remove my Kerry-Edwards sticker. I put the Obama sticker over the old one and I’ll be damned if it doesn’t look like a brand new car.

3. LOL - great story! I have a new car too!
I have proudly displayed my 'no W' sticker for the past 4 years and at this point, the red has faded to pukey pink but it's still there. Before the Texas election, instead of removing that sticker, I put an Obama sticker over top of it and yep - I agree with you, my car looks brand new.

Peace

5. for a long time I had a thule bike rack with a visor
I had all my stickers from 1998 on ...
I had Gore / Leiberman, Dean, and a bunch of local pols on there.
I was once pulled over for not having a front license plate. The neo-con cop gave me a lecture on how I should get rid of my "loser" bumper stickers instead of giving me a ticket.

7. It's a new car, and a new attitude. And I loved Al Gore and John Kerry, but Barack is special.
Barack can't probably overcome the ugliness, but some of us know what it would mean to have him stand before the world and take the oath of office.

You do, and congratulations.
