Well, I figured it would happen and now it has; the closet racists and those people who "just don't think the time is right" have gotten their excuse for not supporting Obama in the primaries. When you actually listen to what Obama's ex-pastor says in his sermons, it's very hard not to agree with him logically, however, it's easy to say he's a separatist or a black nationalist because he's bluntly honest about the treatment black people have received over the years at the hands of white oppressors. And yes, "oppressors" is the proper word here. The oppression of black people in this country didn't end with abolition, it didn't end with the 15th Amendment, it didn't even end with the civil rights laws of the 1960s. The truth is that it goes on today in subtler and more devious ways, one of which is looking for an excuse not to vote for the black man.

I'm not saying that everyone who doesn't support Obama is a racist, there are honest policy differences (not many but some) separating him from Clinton. There are even more stylistic differences that some will prefer over the other. However, every person who posts an hysterical thread claiming Obama is through because he's linked to Pastor Wright is displaying racism. Every poster who throws up some biased statement about how Obama can't win in the swing states "because you know", is showing their true colors. And every poster who claims Obama hasn't earned his place as the front runner in this primary is telling us all what they really think of black people. They've found their excuse.

If/When Obama wins the primary and goes on the the general election, there will be plenty more of these people out there happy to stoke little flames into raging infernos, there's no doubt about that. We'll hear about second cousins who are in jail for drugs, we'll hear about studies that prove blacks aren't as intelligent as whites, and we'll hear about scary black preachers who dare to tell the truth. Perhaps that will be too much for America to take. Maybe there are too many racists to win. It's possible that the time just isn't right for a black man to be president. I don't know, but I do know the excuse will be there in the voting booth for those people.

For myself, I'm going to vote for Obama, anyway. He might not have a chance as so many Clinton supporters are gleefully posting, repeatedly, today. On the other hand, he will have a better chance with my support than without it and that's the kind of guy I am - I support the better person regardless of color. I don't need the excuse but I do need my self respect.

I'm voting Obama.

I have never needed an excuse to not support Obama. I was quite comfortable disliking him before.

And it's 75% likely that he will be the nominee, and if that's the case I will be voting for him in November.

My mirth is at the idea that you think people are obliged to vote for a black candidate, no matter how fanciful his candidacy, and that any failure to support him must be predicated on an excuse.

Because the naked brutal oppression is gone people think that it is no longer oppressive. Because there are some routes that have been made easier some people believe that equality has been achieved.

What is still unequal and oppressive that you have articulated so well can be seen in this campaign.

If Hillary Clinton and not Barack Obama had

the most delegates
the most primaries
the most caucuses
raised the most money
had the most donors
has the most Seantorial endorsements
has the most Gubenatorial endorsements
won the popular vote
won the popular vote in the largest 7 contested states

then the party would have insisted that the circus be called and we embrace the nominee.

Running against Barack Obama has no racial connotations at all - obviously.

Continuing the campaign past a reasonable point and continuing to apply an obvious double standard does have racial connotations.

We have reached the point that to continue to maintain an obvious double standard to the candidacy is in itself racist.

People have to decide for themselves exactly when that point is for themselves, but the pretense that there is not a double standard

Third Clinton Volunteer Knew Of Smear E-Mail
A third volunteer for Hillary Clinton's campaign was aware of a propaganda e-mail alleging that Barack Obama is a Muslim who plans on "destroying the U.S. from the inside out."
"Let us all remain alert concerning Obama's expected presidential Candidacy," the email reads. "Please forward to everyone you know. The Muslims have said they Plan on destroying the U.S. from the inside out, what better way to start than at The highest level."

Two Clinton volunteers, Linda Olson and Judy Rose, have already been asked to resign from the campaign for their roles in forwarding the e-mail. The AP reported yesterday that Olson, a volunteer coordinator in Iowa County, sent a version of the e-mail to 11 people, including Ben Young, a regional field director for Chris Dodd's campaign. Young passed it on to the AP.
