The Excuse.
Well, I figured it would happen and now it has; the closet racists and those people who "just don't think the time is right" have gotten their excuse for not supporting Obama in the primaries. When you actually listen to what Obama's ex-pastor says in his sermons, it's very hard not to agree with him logically, however, it's easy to say he's a separatist or a black nationalist because he's bluntly honest about the treatment black people have received over the years at the hands of white oppressors. And yes, "oppressors" is the proper word here. The oppression of black people in this country didn't end with abolition, it didn't end with the 15th Amendment, it didn't even end with the civil rights laws of the 1960s. The truth is that it goes on today in subtler and more devious ways, one of which is looking for an excuse not to vote for the black man.

I'm not saying that everyone who doesn't support Obama is a racist, there are honest policy differences (not many but some) separating him from Clinton. There are even more stylistic differences that some will prefer over the other. However, every person who posts an hysterical thread claiming Obama is through because he's linked to Pastor Wright is displaying racism. Every poster who throws up some biased statement about how Obama can't win in the swing states "because you know", is showing their true colors. And every poster who claims Obama hasn't earned his place as the front runner in this primary is telling us all what they really think of black people. They've found their excuse.

If/When Obama wins the primary and goes on the the general election, there will be plenty more of these people out there happy to stoke little flames into raging infernos, there's no doubt about that. We'll hear about second cousins who are in jail for drugs, we'll hear about studies that prove blacks aren't as intelligent as whites, and we'll hear about scary black preachers who dare to tell the truth. Perhaps that will be too much for America to take. Maybe there are too many racists to win. It's possible that the time just isn't right for a black man to be president. I don't know, but I do know the excuse will be there in the voting booth for those people.

For myself, I'm going to vote for Obama, anyway. He might not have a chance as so many Clinton supporters are gleefully posting, repeatedly, today. On the other hand, he will have a better chance with my support than without it and that's the kind of guy I am - I support the better person regardless of color. I don't need the excuse but I do need my self respect.

I'm voting Obama.

cause no one wants to say it, so they go around it with dumbshit.

The fail to realize that these are their projection onto the election and who White people will vote for. Which is why they have no clue as to how prejudice they truly are.

18. Actually, it doesn't hit home at all.
I have never needed an excuse to not support Obama. I was quite comfortable disliking him before.

And it's 75% likely that he will be the nominee, and if that's the case I will be voting for him in November.

My mirth is at the idea that you think people are obliged to vote for a black candidate, no matter how fanciful his candidacy, and that any failure to support him must be predicated on an excuse.

From a color-blind perspective he's a silly candidate. If he was white he would be about the most hated man in the Party around here.

So the only one in this exchange with weird race issues seems to be you.

13. Obama, the man in my honest opinion is no man of honor. I say
he was the one with help from his surrogates that played the race card and blamed clinton and with a willing whoremedia it worked. If a man admits that he attends this church on a regular basis and tells reporters that he has never been present when this preacher man spoke against america, against whites, against Jews, against israel. This is a lil too much to believe. If it is proven that obama was present when pastor wright went into one of his rants (obama says he hasn't been there) then I say one lie does not condone another and obama should drop out.

So many things have fallen into place after hearing this preacher speak: i e michelle not being proud of her country until obama won some primaries. Obama playing the race card early in new hampshire in late 06 that folks let it go back.

But if you think the rnc and the gop are not looking through every tape and sermon and any other way they can find to find the "smoking gun" of obama attending church while the pastor was spreading this venom.....

Because the naked brutal oppression is gone people think that it is no longer oppressive. Because there are some routes that have been made easier some people believe that equality has been achieved.

What is still unequal and oppressive that you have articulated so well can be seen in this campaign.

If Hillary Clinton and not Barack Obama had

the most delegates
the most primaries
the most caucuses
raised the most money
had the most donors
has the most Seantorial endorsements
has the most Gubenatorial endorsements
won the popular vote
won the popular vote in the largest 7 contested states

then the party would have insisted that the circus be called and we embrace the nominee.

Running against Barack Obama has no racial connotations at all - obviously.

Continuing the campaign past a reasonable point and continuing to apply an obvious double standard does have racial connotations.

We have reached the point that to continue to maintain an obvious double standard to the candidacy is in itself racist.

People have to decide for themselves exactly when that point is for themselves, but the pretense that there is not a double standard

that is now being applied to Senator Barack Obama is more tenuous by the hour.

in DU-P
i want to say make it its own thread please?
now for my comments
i think that the reason its been allowed to play out is a double double standard
to say to hillary that she has to step down would be "sexist"

dont get me wrong
im 52 in florida white and solidly obama
i just want to point out that we are faced with dual set of issues
they are just offsetting each other
im kinda proud myself as an older fart
that these have yet to become the central issues
gives me hope for america

in the near future
as the short list of primaries shortens
and the actual delegate counts are finalized
as the vote totals in every catagory are known
she will have to aknowledge her defeat
pelosi has already sent the message

Bill Clinton Asks for a Second Chance
By Liz Halloran
Posted February 11, 2008

The morning after his wife, Hillary, was routed in three state contests by Sen. Barack Obama in their dead-heat battle for the Democratic nomination, former President Bill Clinton made his case for her before a packed Sunday service at one of the largest black churches in Washington, D.C.
But first he offered an apology of sorts for racially tinged comments he made about Obama and his candidacy that have triggered a backlash in the black community and among many other Democrats.

Clinton invoked his "worship of a God of second chances" in pronouncing himself glad to be at the Temple of Praise, which claims nearly 15,000 members. His invocation of second chances echoed comments he made early last week at black churches in California, where he campaigned for his wife before that state's Super Tuesday primary, which she won.

Bill Clinton To Apologize At LA Black Churches
Once again, Bill Clinton is ready to repent.

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2008/02/02/bill-clinton-to-apologize_n_84573.html
On Sunday the former president is scheduled to visit black churches in South Central Los Angeles, where he's expected to offer a mea culpa to those who "dearly loved him" when he was their president, Rep. Diane Watson (D-Calif.) says.
Watson, a member of the Congressional Black Caucus who has endorsed Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton (D-N.Y.), tells us she'll usher the former president to more than half a dozen churches in her district where she says he needs to "renew his relationship" with congregants who were turned off by his racially tinged
comments in the days leading up to and following the South Carolina primary. (Such as when Clinton compared Sen. Barack Obama's landslide victory to Jesse Jackson's wins in 1984 and 1988.)

January 17, 2008
COMPTON, Calif. (AP) — Hillary Rodham Clinton and her campaign tried to mend ties to black voters Thursday when a key supporter apologized to her chief rival, Barack Obama, for comments that hinted at Obama's drug use as a teenager. The candidate herself, meanwhile, praised the Rev. Martin Luther King and promised to assist with the rebirth of this troubled, largely black city.

Bob Johnson, the founder of Black Entertainment Television, apologized
for comments he made at a Clinton campaign rally in South Carolina on Sunday that hinted at Obama's use of drugs as a teenager.

Clinton Camp Pushes O-Bomber Links: Ignores Her Own Radical Ties
By: Justin Rood

ABC News - The Hillary Clinton campaign pushed to reporters today stories about Barack Obama and his ties to former members of a radical domestic terrorist group -- but did not note that as president, Clinton's husband pardoned more than a dozen convicted violent radicals, including a member of the same group mentioned in the Obama stories.

"Wonder what the Republicans will do with this issue," mused Clinton spokesman Phil Singer in one e-mail to the media, containing a New York Sun article reporting a $200 contribution from William Ayers, a founding member of the 1970s group Weather Underground, to Obama in 2001.

In a separate e-mail, Singer forwarded an article from the Politico newspaper reporting on a 1995 event at a private home that brought Obama together with Ayers and Bernardine Dohrn, another member of the radical group.

Third Clinton Volunteer Knew Of Smear E-Mail

A third volunteer for Hillary Clinton's campaign was aware of a propaganda e-mail alleging that Barack Obama is a Muslim who plans on "destroying the U.S. from the inside out."
"Let us all remain alert concerning Obama's expected presidential Candidacy," the email reads. "Please forward to everyone you know. The Muslims have said they Plan on destroying the U.S. from the inside out, what better way to start than at The highest level."

Two Clinton volunteers, Linda Olson and Judy Rose, have already been asked to resign from the campaign for their roles in forwarding the e-mail. The AP reported yesterday that Olson, a volunteer coordinator in Iowa County, sent a version of the e-mail to 11 people, including Ben Young, a regional field director for Chris Dodd's campaign. Young passed it on to the AP.

Kerrey Apologizes to Obama Over Remark
http://abcnews.go.com/Politics/wireStory?id=4031436
Kerrey's mention of Obama's middle name and his Muslim roots raised eyebrows because they are also used as part of a smear campaign on the Internet that falsely suggests Obama is a Muslim who wants to bring jihad to the United States. Obama is a Christian.

The Clinton campaign has already fired two volunteer county coordinators in Iowa for forwarding hoax e-mails with the debunked claim. Last week, a national Clinton campaign co-chairman resigned for raising questions about whether Obama's teenage drug use could be used against him, so Kerrey's comments raised questions about whether the Clinton campaign might be using another high-profile surrogate to smear Obama.
