Why should Hillary Clinton be our next president?
No snark, please. I am genuinely interested. What does Hillary Clinton have to offer that makes her the best person to be the president at this time in history? She has obviously convinced a large number of people here she is the most logical choice. I am apparently tone deaf to the message she is trying to get across, so I need your help.

Can you tell me what she stands for and why she should have my support?

2. First I'll give my snarky answer. I'll put up a second more serious post below
Obama has essentially turned this election into a referendum on who the bad person is. His central message is that we have to vote for him because Hillary is an awful human being. People who agree should vote for him. Those of us who recognize this liar for what he is should vote for Hillary.

What? I've listened to a lot of speeches, read his books, rallied for him, voted for him, caucused for him, am a county delegate for him, and I 've heard him contrast what he would do differently than her. One big thing he does say is she voted to give Bush the right to go into Iraq. He was at the same time saying No,No, No, Democrats don't support that effort. That doesn't mean he is saying she is bad. Are you saying when he contrasts his positions to hers that he saying she is awful.

You are listening to a different candidate than I am. There has been much said on this blog the last days on that is very regretful about both candidates. We are standing in a circle and shooting inward.

Calm down the rhetoric, calling him a liar, is not helpful to either side. I she is nominated I will support her montarily, work to get her elected, and hopefully see her as our 1st woman president.

I just think he is a better candidate, if he wins I hope that you will work for him to again have a Democrat in the Whitehouse.

11. Perhaps you haven't heard what I have
He has said she will say or do anything to get elected. He has called her (more or less) a racist. He has taken one hour to take the word of Matt Drudge, a known liar, and slime her. He has said (through surrogates) that she and her husband are corrupt.

Since I am supporting her that must mean that I too am an awful human being. So I am not sure why the great Barack Obama would want to win with my vote.

3. I will gladly tell you why
Edited on Sat Mar-15-08 10:36 PM by journalist3072
1. As President, she will make sure that the federal government fits the policies around the facts; not fixing the facts around the policies as the Bush administration has.

You hear Sen. Clinton mention this point all the time. She talks ad nauseum, for example, about once again having a government that makes sure government scientists aren't subject to political pressure. Under a Hillary Clinton administration, we will once again have an evidence-based government that listens to its scientists.

You also hear this from her, when she says that as President, she will ask Congress to send her the stem cell legislation that Congress passed, but Bush vetoed.

2. As President, she will ensure that we once again appoint QUALIFIED people to the positions we ask them to hold in our government. This is another huge talking point of hers. She constantly talks of the need to once again ask QUALIFIED people to hold government positions. No more "heck-of-a-job Brownies."

3. Our nation's veterans and those currently serving in our armed services, will once again have an advocate in the White House.

Hillary Clinton has shown herself to be a tremendous advocate for our nation's veterans, as well as those currently serving in our armed services.

As First Lady, she helped bring the issue of Gulf War Syndrome to the spotlight, and was a huge advocate for those suffering from Gulf War Syndrome.

As a U.S. Senator and member of the Armed Services Committe, she has continued to show herself to be an advocate for our veterans and current armed service members.

- She demanded a closed-door hearing with the Pentagon to ascertain what, if anything, the Pentagon was doing to prepare for post-war Iraq.

- She also was in the forefront when she learned that the Pentagon was trying to get back the signing bonuses of injured troops.

- She has also proposed a responsible mechanism for ending the Iraq war: saying she would like to start withdrawing troops in the first 60 days of her Administration, and she believes she would be able to do a bridage a month.

4. She has a plan for universal health care.

5. She is for ending the unfunded mandate of No Child Left Behind.

6. She is a policy wonk. Since she ascended onto the national stage in 1992, one of the things that has impressed me the most about Hillary Rodham Clinton, is that she knows the issues, and she has an enormous love of policy. Some of the talking heads and chattering class like to make fun of policy wonks, but a policy wonk is just what we need, for times such as this. We need a President who is proud to 'do nuance.' For the past eight years, we've had a President who, upon arriving at the White House, sent the word out that he was not a big reader (Richard Clarke wrote about this in his book). We had a president who, after receiving a Presidentidal Daily Brief on 8/6/01 entitled "bin Laden Determined to Strike in the United States," simply responded to his CIA briefer "All right, you've covered your ass now."

7. Senator Clinton knows how to build alliances. One of the great misconceptions about Hillary Rodham Clinton, is that she's devisive. Nothing could be further from the truth. In fact, she's received kudos as being a workhorse, from some of the very same people who voted to remove her husband from office. This is what Sen. Lindsey Graham wrote about Sen. Clinton in a Time magazine article in April 2006: "As a red-state conservative, I have found common ground with her on improving health-care benefits for members of the National Guard and Reserve. We also created a bipartisan Manufacturing Caucus to help promote and address the problems facing America's manufacturers." There is simply no factual basis for those who say that she will be too divisive to get anything done as President. Her Senate record proves quite the contrary.

Here's the link to an op/ed I wrote here on DU, on why I support Sen. Clinton:

6. All valid points.
Thank you. For the past week both camps have been going at each other with full blown negativity. I would prefer that we focus on the positives and remind everyone that we have two great candidates.

I appreciate your well thought out response.

10. good post, and I wish everyone understand that this is
what we should all be doing. Talk policy and where the candidates differ. This is coming from a staunch Obama supporter. We need to have posts that follow your tact and well thought out opinions.
I assure you that if my candidate fails, that she will get my vote.
To others who have gloated about this mistake of his, and that mistake of hers. Stop it, it is not helpful to our common goal of putting a Democrat in the Whitehouse, to gain a veto proof margin in Congress, and to win more Governor ships and state congresses.

economic reform and deficit reduction. I also find her to be an honorable and inspirational woman.

14. simple, it's not all biscuits and gravy, wine and flowers as obama
makes it out to be. obama is so much bush LIKE. the whoremedia is again trying their best to turn this campaign into whom they support. Of course it is obama and I hope hrc wins over this empty suit.

Oh and one other thing about this pastor preaching all this hatred about america, and white people. I would not be concerned so much about obama until I saw the preacher ranting and the CROWD BEHIND HIM AND IN FRONT OF HIM WERE SHOUTING, CLAPPING AND AGREEING WITH ALL HE SAID. NOW FOLKS THAT IS WHAT SHOULD CONCERN YOU. If obama has gone to that church for 18 to 20 years and has heard this man speak like this (he says he never heard wright speak hate) then you can rest assured he has been greatly influenced by this man's words.....
