Senator Clinton's ties to Reverend Sun Myung Moon should be examined
Edited on Sat Mar-15-08 10:43 PM by Seen the light
Could someone a little more knowledgeable on Reverend Moon perhaps comment on this stuff I dredged up?

http://www.prnewswire.com/cgi-bin/stories.pl?ACCT=104&STORY=/www/story/09-23-2007/0004668026&EDATE=

<<<Rev. Moon addresses the UPF General Assembly this evening on the topic
of "The United States and the Future Direction of the United Nations and
the World." More than 1200 people will represent all 190 nations present at
the UN. Letters of support from Heads of State from many nations will be
read, as well as messages of support from local political leaders including
Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton, and from religious leaders, NGO directors
and other others.>>>

What was her message of support for the UPF?

"I applaud the Universal Peace Federation's global network of individuals and organizations committed to peace building through dialogue, education and service."

That's according to http://realsunmyungmoon.blogspot.com/2008/01/hillary-and-sun-myung-moon-strategic.html

They have a screenshot of her message that was played in the video.

What do you all think?

1. I think people should not be judged by their religious leaders
And that this whole Wright controversy is a hit job designed to paint Obama as an "angry black man" and make people afraid of him.

I don't think it's productive to start digging up crap on Hillary's religious connections. I think we are better off fighting the premise that the behavior of one's religious leaders is a valid yardstick by which to measure our candidates.

2. Legitimizing a dangerous cult leader doesn't concern you?
There's a world of difference between Reverend Wright and Reverend Moon. Reverend Moon has proclaimed himself the Second Coming of Christ and is the owner of The Washington Times.

8. it's not just Moon (who's right wing). It's Hillary's spiritual mentor Doug Coe who heads t
the Fellowship.

5. Good insights
You are correct that the far right will use Wright to try to portray Obama as an angry black man. I think Obama will win that battle with most people. I trust Obama to know how to play his cards the most effective way.

I think it is counterproductive for Obama supporters to attack Hillary for her religious beliefs.

Those people who want to see Obama in the White House should start acting like winners, not losers. By that, I mean they should focus their ammunition on McCain. The more they act like McCain is the opponent, the more likely it is that McCain will be the opponent.

3. Moon wasn't an issue for Bush...
...despite the extremely close association between the Bush family and Sun Myung, including payments of large amounts of money to father Bush.

A message from Hillary is a speck of dust compared to the Bush-Moon history.

It's a dead horse you're trying to flog to life.

18. oh shut up
Take a pill.

The points are these:

1. Hillary's alleged message on some kind of Moonie occasion is a fly speck. If the Moon issue didn't fly for Bush, it won't fly for Clinton.

2. I'd be happy to see the Moon issue fully examined by the press. Whoever is connected to him -- money, whatever -- ought to be exposed. Moon himself ought to be thoroughly investigated and attention called to his business practices including his monopoly of the world's fisheries.

By the way, do you ever eat sushi in a restaurant? If so, you've contributed $$ to Sun Myung Moon.

13. Your OP shows her "connection"
she wrote a letter saying: "I applaud the Universal Peace Federation's global network of individuals and organizations committed to peace building through dialogue, education and service."

This isn't the Unification Church - it's a separate organization.

This attempt to connect Clinton with objectionable religious leaders is just silly, and shows how much this Wright thing is bothersome to Obama fans.

that she belonged to along with Sam Brownback and Rick Santorum which was big into right wing Christian agendas, according to this recent Mother Jones article:

20. This is a silly smear, Universal Peace Federation is a religious UN org
affiliated with Moon's church, the UN grants special consultative status's to most of the world religions, this one is for Moon's church. It's pretty standard for officials to send messages of welcome when a new UN NGO with consultative status is created, Moon of course is trying to make a big deal about something that is fairly standard.
