The original reports were 85% in. I guess the final is in. Obama gains 9, HRC loses 1 for a net of +10 Obama.

Obama Wins More Delegates in Iowa, Calif.

Updated 11:33 p.m.
By Peter Slevin
CHICAGO - Sen. Barack Obama picked up nine more pledged delegates in Iowa, state Democratic officials said late Saturday night, as thousands took part in county conventions.

All but one of the delegates had been among the 14 won Jan. 3 by former senator John Edwards, who has since dropped out of the Democratic presidential race. Election-night projections showed Obama getting 16 delegates and Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton 15.

With the other six standing firm for Edwards at the county conventions, Obama's camp claimed 25 delegates from Iowa to 14 for Clinton.

"This is a very significant improvement for us," Obama campaign manager David Plouffe told reporters of the Iowa result. "We both fought as hard as we could here."

Plouffe said Obama's gains included blue-collar counties where he had finished third in the January caucuses.

1. Was there a primary today? 'Cuz OB just picked up as many
delegates as Hillary did by winning OH.

5. The IA County Caucuses realigned today.
I think the go on to state next. The remaining JE delegates will likely parse out then, since they have to stay about 15% (currently at 16%).

6. So that means his lead actually did get extended by10...
Edited on Sat Mar-15-08 11:57 PM by acrosstheuniverse
because he gained just 9 but Hillary really did lose 1. Doesn't this count as cutting Hillary's win in Penn by half even if she won by 60 to 40 percent?

10. His pledged delegate lead is 170 now
Makes it even more impossible for Hillary to catch up. He is pretty much the presumptive nominee and some morons on DU are attacking him with this very knowledge.

11. A natural consequence of Hillary and Fatso Mark Penn's insults of the caucuses
They don't appreciate that kind of stuff in Iowa where they take caucuses very seriously, and serious people make the arrangements necessary beforehand to get to the caucus to support their candidate.

13. This is a significant barometer, coming as it does after a very bad week for Obama
Obama has been hit hard with both the Wright and the Rezko stories this week. Two important things happened today that would seem to indicate he has weathered that storm and, perhaps, put it behind him:

(1) Despite the doubts and fears that have surfaced this week, Iowa delegates decided to throw their weight behind him. The Edwards delegates didn't have to budge: they did.

(2) The Chicago Tribune spent 92 minutes grilling Obama on every aspect of his relationship to Rezko, and he answered each of their questions. In the end, they published an editorial today reaffirming their endorsement of him, stating that nothing has changed their minds, and nothing has changed their long deliberations based on 12 full years of scrutiny of his personal life and professional career. This is significant because the conclusions of the Tribune will be listened to by the New York Times, the Washington Post, and other media outlets.

15. I wonder if Hillary's Michigan & Florida stance is pissing off Iowa.
That would be ironic.

17. Could be, but I think Iowa wanted to reaffirm that it made the right
choice the first time. This helps Obama in so many ways, it gets him in the headlines in a positive way, after all the faux outrage.
