A video worth watching: Obama on religion and politics
This is a speech Obama gave in 2006 at a forum on "From poverty to opportunity" -

http://tpmcafe.talkingpointsmemo.com/talk/2008/03/as-this-video-shows-obamas-pat.php

It gives a clear idea of ways religion has and has not influenced his thinking, among other things.

For Hillary supporters: at this moment it looks as though Obama will get the nomination. Before you dismiss him in favor of McCain or Nader, I recommend that you listen to this, as well as the debates between Obama and Alan Keyes, posted yesterday. I think you will feel more confident that he has his head on straight.

Also, if anyone knows of speeches Hillary has given (not on the campaign trail), it would be good to have something positive from her, as well.

3. What a great speech.
That video should be seen by doubters, as well as supporters. He does such a good job. I timed out on the last 10 minutes or so, but will try to catch it. I was mesmerized.

Can you imagine what Obama vs. Bush in a debate would have sounded like? Sorry we didn't have the opportunity to watch such a spectacle.

4. Thank you :)
I just finished watching.
This is what I love about him, he is willing to listen to other ideas and seeks to compromise, not dismiss.
Separation of Church and State is important to him, and he made clear as to the reasons why. Makes perfect sense, I've never had that explained in that way, but now I'm like, well duh. LOL

5. another kick
people should really listen to this speech.

And read his books.

And listen to the audio versions of his Friday interviews with the Chicago Sun Times & Chicago Tribune.

Contrary to perception, Obama is *NOT* unknown if people make the effort to look at original sources beyond what they read on DU posts (much as I love DU posts!) And he is quick becoming about as vetted as vetted can be.

Looking beyond the sound bite, beyond single sources, and then making an informed decision -- it's the democratic way!!

8. this is also available on youtube
in 6 parts. It's a great speech and he was introduced, I believe, by Jim Wallis.

9. K&R for the fairweather obama supporters out there who have rejected him
for purely stupid reasons.
