RAS TRACKING POLL: Obama 47 (+1), Hillary 44 (-1) - - Hillary's "Pastorgate bounce" short lived
Edited on Sun Mar-16-08 09:49 AM by jefferson_dem
The Rasmussen Reports daily Presidential Tracking Poll for Saturday Barack Obama with a three-point advantage over Hillary Clinton in the race for the Democratic Presidential Nomination. It’s Obama 47% Clinton 44% (see recent daily results). On Friday, Obama was leading 50% to 42%. Clinton leads among senior citizens, the candidates are essentially even among those aged 50-64, and Obama leads among those under 50. Clinton retains a very slight lead among Democrats while Obama leads by a wide margin among unaffiliated voters likely to vote in a Democratic Primary.

8. Obama said he won't be swiftboated

Hillary has failed there, and it proves that McCain can't go there either. Obama
is clearly the best nominee for the general election.

2. The Wright dust-up was a non-issue.
Obama is unscathed and is rolling on toward the nomination.

3. Obama knows how to deal with that shit.
That's a top reason why he needs to be the nominee. Unlike Kerry or Gore, he can defuse the shitbombs thrown at them by the GOP and right wing Lieberclinton "Democrats".

4. Sounds like he had a bad day
I think what will get him through this is that

1) his supporters like him
2) they are faced with giving up on a guy they like to support someone else that hasn't sold them yet

It's not so simple to change that now.

I think the reason that "Hymietown" did Jackson in was that it confirmed what a lot of folks thought about him. With Obama, most people don't think he's racist anyway, it might at worst make people think he has made some bad decisions. Well, join the club.

As someone who had planned to vote for Hillary as mail-in before the 2/5 here in CA and changed to Obama sort of at the last minute, I thought about whether I should change based on this news and I just can't see a reason to switch from a candidate that even with this relevation is still the best of my choices.

Probably a lot of people find themselves in a similar position.

6. Truth is people want to believe Barack Obama...and want him to succeed.
Call it "teflon" if you want.

7. Did you ever see that movie, "The Candidate" with Robert Redford?
At one point when he is going to run for Senate someone says to his father (former governor), "They will kill him" to which his father says, "They're not gonna kill him --he's cute!". There's a bit of that dynamic here.

The quotes above are imperfect but I remember it pretty clearly.

17. You know, you make an excellent point. Loved the movie by the way
thought it was one of Redford's best. Barack and my eldest were born the same week of the same year. There is a "cute" thing going on, I like his youthful energy. My son has similar moves, opinions, talks pretty much the same way. It's a generational thing, not a B&W thing. Obama is a sweetheart, it's part of his make-up, his soul.. The other thing I like about Barack is Michelle. Don't mess with her, she's loaded with cute, brains and style. That's ammunition...

28. I knew you were really worried about this...
...but I think you can rest easy a little bit. We still have a ways to go before we can see the full effect of this Wright business, but my sense is really that it's overcome-able.

The primaries slog on...

I hope they go back to showing the full live speeches on the cable news networks. People need to hear his message again and his numbers will go way up.

22. Glad to see it, but...
I think we need to wait to see a few more polls before declaring the wright thing "over". By over analyzing today's results as Obama being in the clear, we're just as bad as people over analyzing yesterday's as Obama being finished.

29. Agreed.
I'd give it until the middle of the week before we can really say for sure what the initial impact of this story is. So far though, I think the Obama campaign marches on.
