Obama needs to deliver a speech on race, religion, and divisions much like Romney did |
|

The pundits on "This Week" are still pretty infuriated over this Wright stuff and I think it's best for Senator Obama to defuse the gang of 500 as they are circling like vultures demanding that he take more action. I'm talking about like a 11 a.m. Springfield, Illinois major speech on the state capitol steps ala his annoucement speech that FOX, CNN, MSNBC and even ABC, NBC, CBS cover.
I think that he needs to deliver a speech along the same lines as Romney did about mormonism in December. He'll hit it out of the park and as much as many here hate Chris Matthews and the rest of the media, I'm telling you that they'll fawn over it. He needs to give a speech talking about being raised by a single WHITE mother, talk about as he did in Indiana that he has little pieces of America inside him, talk about how Jeremiah Wright exposes fundamental racial fault lines in society as much as he deplores the comments, talk about how his goal will be to help us all move past the 1960's divisions, and also somehow defuse the notion that he agreed with the statements.
I'm telling you, his oratorical skills are second to none. He can hit this out of the park into the stratosphere. The gang of 500 will be floored and fawning.
This is what he needs to do to FULLY move past this incident. It'll only help him. Might even end the 70-30 White vote/90-2 AA vote divisions.

2. I've been saying this since Thursday |
|
but I liken it more to a JFK like speech than a Mittens speech. Mittens' speech was pretty abominable.

3. I think he will in the general election |
|
. . .as much as I have bemoaned the Clinton's use of race to marginalize Obama and I don't think a race, religion and division speech will be as impactful now as it would be in the general election.

6. This has been bandied about here and I heard it suggested on one of the shows.. |

I'm sure this is something his sage campaign advisors are mulling over and I'll certainly trust their judgement. I, personally, would like to see something like this A) Because he can truly pull it off B) It would end up being a speech of historical significance C) It would get wall to wall coverage and be played in snippets for days D) It would put this issue to BED for good and E) Cuz I want to see him speak for the ten thousandth time:-) :hide:

7. Yeah that worked so well for Mittens. |
|
Obama, when he finally gets rid of the Clinton albatross, needs to reframe his campaign so that it is about ending eight years of gross misrule instead of about defending what his pastor did or did not say. If he ends up running a campaign about his religion he is going to lose.

8. I have posted something similar. I think Kerry's speech at Pepperdine would be a wise |
|
path for Obama as it struck just the right tone about religion as an influence on politics and governance, using a worldview that encompasses all religions.

anything he's got to say. One thing I think everyone can agree on - that man knows how to craft and deliver a wonderful speech!
