Why the hell is Rev. Wright a Topic of Discussion, again?
It has really sunk in with me. Why are we talking about Reverend Wright in this presidential election when we are in a recession, this home mortgage crisis, in a failed and misguided war in Iraq, Osama Bin Laden is god knows where strengthening his troops, people are literally loosing the shirts off their backs, schools are crumbling, we have millions of people without health care and those with health care are being screwed by these HMOs, we have corporations absorbing money like never before, gas is $4 a GALLON, milk is almost $5 a GALLON, eggs are $4, bread is almost $4, the social services people need have been drastically CUT and people are dependent of these "faith based" outreach programs with no sort of guaranteed security, the earth is in peril (HOW DID WE MANAGE TO DESTROY THE PLANET EARTH? HOW? WHAT KIND OF FUCKED UP SPECIES ARE WE?), we have oil magnates controlling our economy, we IGNORE genocide in Darfur, but are spending TRILLIONS of dollars OCCUPYING a soverign nation, we shipped all of our manufacturing jobs to other countries and buy everything from these countries, ending up with a MASSIVE trade deficit, the dollar is crashing when compared to other nations, our CIVIL RIGHTS are eroding--wiretaps gone wild, rendition gone wild, warrentless searches, the prison industrial complex being fueled by poor, young, and mostly black men because of nonviolenet offenses, and may I say again, WE ARE TWO STEPS AWAY FROM marshall law if the eroding of our Civil Rights continue, we have a crazy Supreme Court in love with right wing ideology and power

YET WE ARE DISCUSSING REVEREND JEREMIAH WRIGHT, an old black preacher in Chicago, IN THIS FRIGGIN ELECTION WHICH WILL DETERMINE WHETHER THIS COUNTRY STANDS OR FALLS!

REV. WRIGHT MIGHT DECIDE THIS ELECTION? OBAMA MIGHT BE HELD ACCOUNTABLE FOR WHAT SOME TOTALLY SEPARATE PERSON BELIEVES DUE TO HIS OWN EXPERIENCES?

THIS COUNTRY HAS OFFICALLY TURNED IDIOCRATIC!

created the situation this country is in. I see more faux outrage about Wright on here then I do about GEORGE W BUSH and the REPUGLICANT PARTY. BUSH is the reason why people are loosing the shirts off their backs. BUSH is the cause for ALLL OF THIS. And he DARED danced on the steps of the White House as if thousands of soldiers haven't DIED in Iraq based on a LIE. As if millions of people in this country aren't SUFFERING due to his failed policies. It makes me ANGRY. Nevermind that he had a nitjob pastor IN THE WHITEHOUSE spewing anti-semetic rhetoric! Nevermind JOHN MCINSANE "bomb iran" HAS TWO religious nutjobs on his team, one of which he calls his SPIRITUAL ADVISOR.

8. Political reality
Not to say that the US isn't collectively insane (it is) -but these are the sorts of allegations and smears that can swing elections- and have done so repeatedly in the past.

It's the far right's MO- and simply dismissing it (as Kerry and Dukakis did) leads to disaster.

The fact that all this is coming out now- and that Obama appears to be responding to the first salvos, is somewhat encouraging, though the worst is clearly yet to come.

The whole Rezco "scandal" has been exposed as the non-story it was all along.

Hillary's supporters gave up on trying to highlight her positives a long time ago. Now, it's just sliming Obama 24/7.

They are very skilled at keeping this story at the top of the page. One of them will write an imflammatory post making the absurd implication that Obama hates white people, and the rest of them will keep kicking it to the top. Sometimes it almost seems orchestrated.

That's all there is to it.

The Hill-billies will claim that he did an OMGWTFBBQ! terrible thing by saying "God damn America" and "Hillary has never been called a n!@#$r!"

It's an exaggeration. People shoot off their mouths all the time. And people are forgiven and welcomed back to the fold afterwards. Just look at President Bush, who's said and did far worse things, and not only is he still President, but he still got reelected (or shall I say "reelected".) Still, when one person only peripherally involved with Obama's campaign says a few controversial statements and offends a few people, all of the sudden, the Hillary-Freepers come out and say "HIS CAMPAIGN IS DOOMED!!! DOOOOOOOOOOMED!!!"

And the reason why is racism.

Let me turn the dog whistle down a few octaves.

"One of Barack Hussein Osbama's n@#$%r buddies is getting uppity! Let's string this n@#$%r up and that'll put them in their place!"

Pure, vile, despicable racism.

Wright's hostile statements have already been rejected and denounced. That doesn't mean all of his statements are hostile or offensive, or even more than 1% are - the ones we're hearing have been cherry-picked to smear him. Obama's already dealt with it. CASE FUCKING CLOSED!!!

So anyone who continues to bring them up now is spreading bigotry. And I will call it out as bigotry. And I will not be subtle about it.

I expect this shit to come out of the usual freephole outlets like FAUX NOISE and Redstate. But I will refuse to put up with it here.

37. I tell you why from my perspective
Edited on Sun Mar-16-08 04:06 PM by JoFerret
After almost 8 years of bush and the GOP we cannot blow this election. You know the reasons why.

The Wright factor - while fairly meaningless in relation to Obama in other ways - renders him dangerously vulnerable in the general election. You know the reasons why I think that.

I know we can all argue this every which way and up and down but that is my considered and not irrational view. No one can know for sure. And that is why the Wright matter matters in my opinion.

(It is true that I lean toward Clinton for a variety of unrelated reasons. And certainly there are many things I find fault with in both of them. Obama's irritate and disturb me more than Clinton's and I do believe she would be an excellent president and begin to effect the changes we desperately need. But I also believe strongly that we have two great candidates.)

I also think that Hillary has been subject to appalling treatment on this board. Quite disgraceful. It has turned me into her champion in the interests of fairness. But to repeat; we have two great candidates. Pray to whatever gods you worship that one of them wins in November.

Any chance Hillary will denounce, reject or whatever else they're doing to people who have freedom of speech but you just happen to know? Guilt by association and all that. Has she denounced and whatever all of her associates convicted of crimes during the last Clinton presidency? There were 15 re Whitewater alone. Just wondering. Guilt by association and all that.
