Sick of Reading Bullshit About Rev. Wright? John Adams Miniseries Starts Tonight on HBO
Miniseries Premiere Tonight - take a much needed break from the tripe and enjoy a snapshot of history, perhaps some inspiration !

John Adams

Paul Giamatti, Laura Linney, and Tom Wilkinson star in a seven-part miniseries based on David McCullough's Pulitzer Prize-winning historical biography. Exec-produced by Tom Hanks, the weekly, hour-long segments explore Adams' pivotal role as a founding father on the path to becoming the nation's second President. Think that learning about one of America's most dynamic leaders is only for audiences of history buffs? Think again.

You'd have to be a heartless Commie bastard not to enjoy HBO's seven-part miniseries John Adams. Paul Giamatti, with his expressive potato face and perennial look of frowning aggrievement, stars as Adams. As Giamatti interprets him, Adams seems both intelligent and ordinary enough to pass as all the things he truly was: a shrewd lawyer, a nettlesome Continental Congress debater, a huffy ambassador to France, and, eventually, the second President of the United States. You'll feel goose bumps of pride when you hear bits of the Declaration of Independence being read aloud during the second installment. The production makes high drama of the tart copyediting done by Ben Franklin (Michael Clayton's Tom Wilkinson, so wily) on the Declaration prose of Thomas Jefferson (The Hours' Stephen Dillane, beautifully moody): Jefferson leans toward holding certain inalienable rights as being ''sacred and undeniable,'' but foxy, irreligious Franklin says flatly that this wording ''smacks of the pulpit'' and suggests the pithier ''self-evident.'' Eureka! And thus held in our memories forevermore.

5. Meh. Adams was a Tory shill
He even represented the redcoats in the Boston Massacre trial.

9. That's fair enough
(And I was mostly being sarcastic.)

I seem to recall he had a pretty convincing argument about why he did that, and how a stiff sentence for any of those soldiers (mostly 19-year-olds being pelted with bricks) would be as bad as they tyranny they were against.

6. I cannot wait....
I've been reading the book lately and I'm about half done. The HBO series looks awesome....Tom Hanks is the Executive Producer and the last time he worked in that capacity for HBO pictures was "Band of Brothers", which was incredibly realistic and well done. John Adams will be a reminder of what government is supposed to do.

25. Yeah, that was brutal. I actually taped it and watched it again.. I
wonder if its so "good" because of what is going on in our country today.. or if its just that damned good of a show. Maybe both, but its simply stunning ! Can't wait till next week !
