This Hillary Supporter Believes that Obama's Speech
knocked the ball out of the park and may just make him the President.

I believe that Hillary is better prepared to be the President but Obama spoke what so many have thought forever, and even if his candidacy is not successful he began a dialogue that I hope moves this country forward.

Racism has been a charge leveled against Hillary supporters by Obama supporters on this board but I note Obama has never made that charge. We should learn from the candidate and take prode in this man today, both Hillary supporters and Obama supporters, white and black, progressive and moderate.

I am proud to be a member of the same party as Barak Obama and found out today that unless John McCain is elected, I cannot possibly lose in November.

I hope that the unity that Sen Obama proposed today will infect those of us who post on DU. I hope that we can continue to debate from our hearts and minds but remember that we are arguing within our family and that the words we type today will be read by those who we will depend upon tomorrow.

I for one promise to remember that when I disagree with folks here at DU I am arguing with family members I hope to maintain a relationship with.

10. Thanks for your words.
I know I have been one of those who have let the heat of "competition" allow me to take my eye off the proze. Obama reminded me today that where we have to go may require a fight but that fight should not be fought amongst those who believe the same things but have a dispute upon how we are going to get there.

If Obama's goal today was to cause his distractors to think again, he succeeded with styersc.

We are, ultimately, all rowing the same boat.

And, if Obama can deliver a speech that wins over some of his opponents supporters, I am further impressed.

about Hillary, about DU. I fell into the same traps as a
many did and got drawn into the argument.
For that I apologize... its a weakness in me.
But what struck me the most today is the strength of US.
I've been inspired.. not just by Obama, not by just Dems,
but by US.. we the people, together, united.
We can do the most amazing things if we want to.
Thank you Barack Obama for opening our eyes again.

My ass, he didn't know what he meant and didn't have time to disassociate himself from the man until now.

36. I'm taking a DEEP breath re.: Obama
OK. The guy can deliver a speech... Almost Kennedy-esque....
Obama's hopeful message is indeed refreshing, particularly
after the moronic "Compassionate Conservatist" who stole
the White House in 2000. It's just a little unsettling
to hear his explanation that he "never heard specific
anti-American remarks," from his so-called pastor, even though he's attended the church for some 20 years or so...
And now it's coming out that he and/or his campaign has been a little less than truthful about his relationship with longtime friend, Tony Rezco. The folowing excerpt is from ABC News, March 19, 2008:
"In the case of his relationship with Rezko, Obama has also been slow to acknowledge the full extent of his relationship. It was only last week that he revealed Rezko had raised some $250,000 in campaign contributions for him. The campaign had initially claimed Rezko-connected contributions were no more than $60,000, an amount the campaign donated to charity. Then the figure grew to around $86,000, and there were additional revelations that put the amount at about $150,000. Obama's $250,000 accounting was a substantial jump and clearly contradicted earlier campaign statements that Rezko was just one of "thousands of donors."
I'll bet McCain is chomping at the bit, waiting until he has to run against Obama with new these new developments to use against him. I, for one, am starting to believe that Obama is just another politician, albeit a magnificent orator, who has had the great fortune of running against a woman.
In any other year, Obama would have been toast.... I'm afraid he WILL be against McCain....!!!
I HOPE I'M WRONG...!!!
GOD BLESS AMERICA....!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Maybe, but I think the electorate is itching for a complete outsider in much the same way that it was in '92. Hillary's baggage isn't that she's a woman, it's that she's been a household name associated with the establishment for 15 years . . .

Just asking - don't you think if Wright had made statements like the ones in question very often, that some of the more dedicated Obama-haters, Fox-newsies, along with the Repub's, would have found those instances by now, and that we would be going through a whole new round of SHOCK AND AWE at the Rev.'s comments.

I could easily be wrong, but I am just asking.

41. I just wish Obama supporters realized and agreed with this when they
TRASHED Hillary! That's what will forever bug me and I find it difficult to forgive! How they posted endless hostile, disgusting, hateful, Right Wing talking points and lies about our own Dem candidate. It was in defensible! Now they talk lets be nice...after all their hate! My blood is boiling and I'd go eat some dinner and try to relax. I assure you if Hillary supporters had posted all that hate about Obama...not one of them would ever vote for Hillary...ever!
That's the Beef! I'm still angry and I need to see a complete change of attitude in Obamites posting...before the primary is settled. A complete truce! And how can we talk, agree, or disagree when they all have us on ignore? They don't want to talk to us...but they want our vote!

43. Maybe it goes to the "family analogy". If a DU'er wants to
trash Obama or HIllary, that is one thing- we are family. But if Hannity, Limbaugh, etc. trash one of our folks that makes my blood boil. It's hard to take when it is one of our people but insufferable when it is one of them.

At least not from those that weren't trolls to begin with. It's heated, it's even nasty sometimes, but it isn't racist or misogynistic by and large.

I like Edwards best. Obama was my second choice. Clinton - should she pull off a miracle that doesn't destroy the party - would be my third.

...I was talking to come co-workers today, and wanted to know what they thought of Obama's speech. None of them had heard it (though some had heard about it). Truthfully, I wouldn't have heard it if I didn't go out of my way to find it on the internet. The most "informed" of them said that they saw The Daily Show making fun of it last night, but that was the most feedback I heard.

My mother in law, who is generally apolitical (and is generally centrist/right leaning) with strong Catholic views on such matters as abortion, sent copies of it speech and a link to the video to both me and my wife.

At my wife's book club last night, it was a main topic of discussion (again, the book club is made up of a people with a fairly wide range of political viewpoints).

50. It was great
I loved how introspective it was, like Obama had really grappled with these issues and decided to go with his heart. It would've been so easy to just pander & do the "denounce & reject" thing, or just ignore it & hope it goes away. But he didn't do that - it was a courageous speech IMO & I've gained new respect for Obama. So often it seemed like he was willing to sell out or back down in order to win, but he didn't do that. He said that there were some people he would not toss aside for political expediency, some lies he would not tell, some principles he would not back down from.
