Feminist Icon Chooses Obama: "I Won’t Vote With My Vagina"
Video: http://www.breitbart.tv/?p=64574

"First of all, I'm not gonna vote with my vagina. That's first of all," Marianne Williamson tells Retirement Living TV about why she is supporting Sen. Barack Obama.

I didn't start out with him. I thought people were projecting wildly onto him, making positive assumptions that he hadn't earned and filling in empty spaces in his resume with mere hopes of substance. But the longer campaign season has worked for me; having watched the candidates move through time, I've seen who's grown and who hasn't. I've ended up -- at least for now -- with Obama.

I'm perplexed by the question often presented by his opponents, "Yeah, but how is he really going to change things?" To me, he already has. He has awakened the sleeping giant of American democracy, and that is the greatest antidote to every problem we face.

...

"What! You're not voting for Hillary? But I thought you were such a feminist!"

If I've heard it once, I've heard it a hundred times. So let me explain why I'm not voting with my vagina...

As a feminist, I believe nurturing and nourishing a world trying to be born is the most efficient way to counter the malevolent effects of a world that needs to pass away.

That is why I support Obama.

As a feminist, I believe inclusion is more powerful and life producing than is exclusion.

That is why I support Obama.

As a feminist, I believe tending and mending is a more effective way to deal with the world's stress points than is fighting or fleeing.

That is why I support Obama.

As a feminist, I believe having a vision for what I want the world to become is as important as solving problems that have arisen in the world that is.

That is why I support Obama.

As a feminist, I'm more concerned with creating a world my great-great-grandchildren can live in than in trying to make things better for me right now.

That is why I support Obama.

As a feminist, I am convinced that building authentic relationships is a more lasting, creative way to build peace than just strategizing to destroy enemies and manipulate alliances.

That is why I support Obama.

7. No doubt. Anyone who says something like that isn't a feminist icon in my book.
She is exactly the opposite. Implying that women are so influenced by their vagina they can't think straight. Does she also say then that if you're voting for Obama and you're a male you're listening to your d***?

18. I will only agree that people choose their candidates for a multitude of reasons. It doesn't mean
that it is ok to imply that women who are voting for Clinton are thinking with their vagina. And it is offensive and sexist and reeks of misogyny. I don't care if she is a woman or not.

with the intent to peel their vote away. Or else she wouldn't have published it.

'Only unthinking women would vote for Hillary because they want to see a female president and think Clinton would be great for the office.' You don't want to be unthinking, do you?

9. funny, "feminist" never appears on her Wikipedia entry
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Marianne_Williamson

and none of her "causes" seem to describe anything that sounds like feminist activity, though there is a lot of religious activity described.

I find her HuffPo language crude and offensive, and a comparable comment about blacks who support Obama would NEVER be tolerated there or most other places.

I don't assume known feminists are going to vote in lockstep for Hillary, but it's wrong to make the implication that someone who's an icon of the movement has shifted to Obama.

47. Perspective
The U.S. population has over 300 million people. The world has over 6.5 billion people.

How many people does DU have? Out of that population, how many post things here you disagree with?

Are you going to let the 20, 50, 100 people here get to you so much that you aren't going to do what is best for the 300 million people in this country or the 6.5 billion people on this planet?

It's your right to vote or not vote. All I'm saying is, at the end of the day DU is just a website. There are bigger things going on.

*shrugs*

And Hillary was never a choice for her.
Maybe if Hillary had been a feminist, my sister would have supported her.
But, my sister thought that Edwards had the best chance because he had been through this before.
After Edwards dropped out of the race, she was concerned that Hillary wouldn't do very well.
But, within just 6 weeks, she is glad to support Obama.

"Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate, our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness, that most frightens us. We ask ourselves, 'Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, and fabulous?' Actually, who are you not to be? You are a child of God. Your playing small does not serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won't feel insecure around you. We were born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us. It is not just in some of us. It is in everyone. And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear our presence automatically liberates others." — Marianne Williamson, A Return To Love (HarperCollins, 1993)

Or is it one vagina, one vote? Does it have to be a declared Democratic vagina, or can it be an independent vagina?

and can I ask if these vagina primaries are open or closed?

These democratic processes are so hard to understand sometimes.
