Obama, and America, won bigtime today.
He accomplished part of a long-stated goal by bringing literally millions of Americans together to look honestly and productively at the racial issues that have divided us. True, many will not hear what was said, or will reject or even misuse the words. But I have seen many others take heart and renew their determination to work to overcome the artificial differences that are so easily used by those who would divide, disempower and disenfranchise us all.

I'm sure the squabbling and bickering will return soon enough. But, in my book, Barack Obama did something quite remarkable today: he got at least some of us to look at more than one side of some very complicated and emotionally charged issues.

Regardless of what the future will bring with delegate fights, right-wing smear campaigns, last-minute bin Laden endorsements, voter suppression, electoral fraud and dangerously accelerating spins, in my way of scoring Barack has already won hands down.

Peace, especially to all those who are mortally offended by this post.

3. So when does Hillary's opponent join a church that has his same beliefs?
When does Hillary's opponent ever take responsibility?

4. Just curious. Did you hear the speech?
Not quite sure how your comment relates to the OP or to the speech. The OP was about how the speech has, in my view, helped people to see the issue more clearly and productively. I was careful NOT to talk about how it might help Hillary or Barack . . . that is a separate issue from the one I was trying to highlight.

5. He used his grandmother fears to excuse his preacher for being a bigot
Just more racial jujitsu to avoid responsibility.

2. Indeed. Best speech I've heard since ...
hmmm... I can't recall ever hearing a better speech.

It would be nice if every American heard it. Hopefully they'll get the gist of it during Obama's presidency.
