All men are created equal... |
|
Does the Democratic Party believe this, or not?
This is the most fundamental tenet of democracy. Either we get behind equality for all people or we do not exist as a party that I am willing to support. This morning so far I have watched Scarborough start mincing and slicing the Republican hate dish that will be coming out later in the day, playing on the themes of those who embrace progressive ideas as being "elitist" or coming from Ivy League educational backgrounds. That Obama committed political suicide somehow by giving voice to these most fundamental of ideas and was somehow unAmerican in doing so. That he threw his grandmother under the bus to score political points. Equality is not an elite idea anymore than freedom is. Both of these ideas come from the dreams and aspirations of masses of humanity throughout the centuries. Very few among the elite were enlightened enough to willingly give up power to the people. MLK had begun to speak to issues of class and poverty before he was killed. We are seeing the powerful try to close ranks after a disastrous decade in which they have stripped lands of their wealth and caused much destruction. Barack is on the right track. I am behind him 100%. The idea that we can move forward toward without treating all peoples as equal is ludicrous. If we do not stand with Barack, regardless of who we vote for, on these principles, we serve no purpose either politically or socially and might as well just hand it over the Republicans to do with what they will.

1. Democrats have a choice. We can unite behind a leader of color, or |
|
or we can create a division that will destroy what's left of the party. For me, the choice is clear...Obama.

5. If he's really a leader, why would his color matter? |
|
"Unite behind a leader of color" or else ...
That's sad.

2. As usual, words of wisdom from you. It's frightening to hear this |
|
being spun the way it is. I wish you'd send this post to Scarborough. Here's some incentive-scroll down for the comment section. I'll be writing also, but you say it so much better than I do. http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/3036789/

4. Thanks, Skidmore, for sending that. I don't presume |
|
he'd change his rhetoric, but at least he'll know not everyone listening to him agrees with him.
