Mr. Obama DID explain why he didn't walk out...
Edited on Wed Mar-19-08 09:05 AM by kentuck
Or I heard things that no one else heard in his speech? Paraphrasing, since I don't have the exact words in front of me, but I recall that he said that if these had not been "isolated" incidents, he would have felt like everyone else did about Rev Wright. In the thousands and thousands of sermons, the media and others had cherry-picked the most controversial or racist, choose your adjective, comments that the Rev Wright had made. I recall that Obama said that the Reverend was more than that depicted in those hateful excerpts and that was why he could not denounce him? Did anyone else hear this?

IF so, why are so many right-wingers and some Democrats saying that he never explained why he walked beside this man for 20 years? I think he did explain it. It's just that some folks were not listening. Why? That is a question for them.

1. Yes but initially, wasn't the story that Obama was never there for any of the "hot" sermons?
Just saying, the first damage control was that the Senator never happened to be in the congregation when the more 'controversial' sermons were being given.

2. The media has badly distorted Reverend Wright and his career.
The man is very accomplished, I couldn't even keep track of all the degrees he holds and he's been given many honorary ones. He built that congregation into a huge, liberal spiritual home.

This hatchet job on him seems shameful to me.
