This speech has completely convinced me
that the orator fancies himself as a cross between Demosthenes, JFK, and MLK.
I would strongly advise any diabetics listening to it for the first time to inject a hefty bolus of insulin. I am flabbergasted by the plaudits. It terms of its schmaltzy, self-serving, cover-your-assery it makes the ‘Checkers’ spiel sound like the Gettysburg Address.
I note the panegyrics here with interest. I have visions of multitudinous cabals of Obanmites feverishly arriving at the following conclusion:
‘We’re in deep doo-doo here. We have only 24 hours to work on the mainstream consciousness so let’s get cracking. Ring that radio show. Vote on the television poll. Get onto that internet chat forum and spin, spin, spin…’
BTW I don’t give xxxx how many contributors here label me as a ‘troll’. Any hostile pm’s will be promptly deleted, unread, and the senders put on ‘ignore’.

You are being the worst kind of Hillbot with this hate.

The speech was pretty damn good... I actually like it better when I read it. Here's a link to the video and the transcript:

http://www.realclearpolitics.com/articles/2008/03/a_more_perfect_union.html

Damn fine speech. Yes, he had professional help, but I'm sure he thoroughly vetted this many times over.

I still don't like him. I don't like Hillary either. I think they are pretty much the same person in different skin.

I think we've found enough in common to ride this out! Besides, no matter who wins the nomination, you are going to support them whole-heartedly, right? Me too! We'll be on the same side again soon... not soon enough, but soon!

18. Good grief.
First, composing your posts with your pocket thesaurus isn't a good idea.

Second, I love how half the people trying to trash Obama's speech are doing it by calling it ass covering, and the other half are trashing it because he refused to take the easy way out and cover his ass by throwing Wright under the bus. We should throw both sides in a steel cage match and let them tear each other to pieces, it would be more productive than what's going on right now.

Let me help you guys out. What you just saw in that speech that has you so confused and disoriented is called honesty and integrity. It has been absent from the upper levels of politics in the nation for quite a while now, so your systems might need a while to identify and process it properly. Once that happens then try to go back and review the multitudes of people heaping praise on what Obama did and you'll have better luck understanding why they're doing it.

when he said that he had never heard Wright's incendiary sermons. Maybe he didn't hear the charming sermon he delivered this past Christmas when he attacked Hillary, but I sincerely doubt that he didn't know about the G-D sermon and all the others. if he had delivered it some time ago and not after the Wright controversy. He's a good speaker, so I knew that he would give a good speech, but that's all it is: a speech. Nothing tangible.

84. Here are some more things that are not tangible.
Leadership, integrity, honesty, empathy, intelligence, sincerity, judgment. Do you really want a president who can't match up in those "intangibles"?

What, in your opinion, would be a "tangible" thing that Hillary has done during this campaign (or her tenure in the Senate, or any time frame you wish) that qualifies her to be president? All I hear are vague references to being there while other people did things. The few "tangible" tasks she's set for herself -- healthcare reform, running a primary campaign -- have been miserable failures for her.

Oh, I forgot, Hillaryites are enamored of their own sophistry and casusistry. Just understanding the depths of her ambition makes them feel important compared to all the rubes who don't understand how this Wright thing was spread by Hillary people to discredit and destroy the Dem nominee. As they said on Hardball tonight, it's all about 2012 -- and destroying the Democratic left by tying it to Willie Horton and the evils of "black nationalism".

50. There are some things that will never change
There are people that are bitter and angry. They like being bitter and angry. If they stopped being bitter and angry, they might have to take some ownership for them being bitter and angry. :grr:

I would like to hear from someone bitter and angry what their solution to this is.
anamnua- you seem pretty bitter and angry-

Close your eyes and imagine that your candidate in shining armor made the same speech (minus the part about his family being so racially diverse and his very exuberant Rev.)
Would you applaud her and recognize that this is a talk that we've needed for far too long and that it was extremely risky for her to talk to the public like adults? Would you not be proud that someone going through the process of elected office has the fortitude to take up an issue like this instead of sweeping it back under the carpet? Would you want everyone to listen to her and would you be dismayed when people can't grasp the underlying message of coming together to fix the problems that plague us as a divided nation?
Or- would you find yet another reason to be bitter and angry because your candidate was the only one with the guts to talk like this?

Anyway- I was kidding- I don't really want to hear from anyone bitter and angry. Life's to short to listen to rebuttals from angry people!

I'd suggest that you work much harder on Reading Comprehension.

89. Poor choice of historical figures to advance your propaganda.

It would be Isocrates who is the far closer model for Barack Obama, not Demosthenes, who was a race-baiting asshole.

It was Isocrates who challenged the prevailing view that the Macedonianians were "barbarians," a view held even by Aristotle of virtually any non-Greeks, including Macedonians and Persians with whom his prize student had much truck.

Obama's eloquence is closer, actually, to Lincoln's than to MLK's, although themes intersect with all three, and eloquence visits them all in any good analysis.

You missed on this one. Big time.

90. Lincoln
''Obama's eloquence is closer, actually, to Lincoln's than to MLK's,''
A relevant quote from Lincoln:
'You can fool some of the people all of the time and all of the people some of the time but you can't fool all of the people all of the time'
I can assure (other contributors) that I did not make use of a thesaurus, dictionary, or any external aid. Thanks anyway for the indirect (and unintended) compliment.
Another point. I am a regular Mass attender and I can only think of two occasions in the last 25 years where an officiating priest said anything politically objectionable. And believe me what they said was pretty tame compared to Rev Wright's outpourings. Both times I stood up and walked out.
