Fox Attacks: Black America

Is it any wonder that the earliest reports of racial divide in the Primary Election can be traced directly back to Fox News? They are fanning the flames of racism, folks.

Bill O'Reilly Uses Mike Tyson To Smear Barack Obama
Reported by Deborah - January 3, 2007 - 61 comments
Bill O'Reilly joined the chorus of vultures picking at Barack Obama over his admission of marijuana and cocaine use when he was teenager. Although O'Reilly kept his hands clean tonight during a discussion about Obama with Clarence Page, Chicago Tribune, it was preceded with a segment about Mike Tyson's recent cocaine arrest in Arizona. Then O'Reilly immediately went into the Obama intro claiming there may be another cocaine problem with the Senator...

O'Reilly badgers Sharpton: what has Obama ever done for you? (Black America)
Reported by Chrish - January 27, 2007 - 48 comments
Bill O'Reilly didn't have time for the rest of the field running in the Democrat (sic) primaries and only wanted to discuss Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama and their respective appeal to the African-American community. The segment quickly degenerated into O'Reilly badgering Sharpton on Obama with the end result that O'Reilly declares Obama's done nothing for the black community. With video...

O'Reilly Engulfs Obama With Cloud Of Racial Confusion
Reported by Deborah - February 7, 2007 - 75 comments
Bill O'Reilly claimed tonight, 2/7/07, that Barack Obama's poll numbers have been falling partly because there's a racial divide and because people are confused about the divide, they disengage from Obama. This convenient conclusion was reached through the typically distorted O'Reilly reasoning process and then delivered with the utmost authority as an absolute truth...

Hannity Plays Race Card Against Obama
Reported by Ellen - February 28, 2007
The honeymoon’s over. After several days of admiring Obama, Hannity is going after him in the most vile way, though it’s not unexpected given Hannity’s record of bigotry. Hannity is investigating Obama’s racial “divisiveness” based on the fact that he attends a black-focused church. With video.
The discussion began with Hannity questioning whether Obama was popular enough with African-Americans to win the nomination, implying that his standing in the black community was the only relevant factor in his candidacy. Hannity said that the polls show “Obama carrying less than half the African American vote. Will the Illinois senator be able to turn this around and win his party’s nomination?”
~snip~

But I have a feeling that one way or another Hannity will continue to play the race card against Obama – all the while trying to blame Obama for being the racist...

FOX News Tries To Paint Obama As Black Militant Pagan
Reported by Ellen - March 1, 2007 - 109 comments
It would be funny if it weren't so despicable. But Sean Hannity and World Net Daily colunnist Erik Rush teamed up to question whether Obama was really a Christian, whether he was too “Afrocentric” and whether he’s an African separatist. All because a page on his church’s website references and adopts the precepts of something called the “Black Value System.” Updated with video.

The “controversial” page is in the “About us” section of the Trinity United Church of Christ website. It begins, “We are a congregation which is Unashamedly Black and Unapologetically Christian…” But for Sean Hannity, the “black” overshadowed the “Christian.” At the beginning of the discussion he said, “Trinity Church's congregation subscribes to a ten-point list which they were refer to as, quote, (said with a sneer) Afrocentric. Now a closer look at the church's vision has led many to call them 'separatists’ and in some cases even drawing comparisons to a cult.” Noting that one of the items on the list is commitment to the black community, Hannity wondered, “What if it was a commitment to the white community?”

Rush said that he "interpolated" the words "black" for "white" and "Suddenly, I was looking at this really scary doctrine. You know, it was something that you'd see in more like a cult or an Aryan Brethren church… I would go beyond saying they're Afrocentric. They're African centric. They refer to themselves as an African people and that somewhat disturbs me from the viewpoint of well, do they consider themselves Americans? Do they consider themselves Christians? Are they worshipping Christ? Are they worshipping African things black?" ...

This is a partial transcript from "Hannity & Colmes," March 1, 2007, that has been edited for clarity.

SEAN HANNITY, CO-HOST: Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney has been inundated with coverage about his Mormon faith, LDS. In light of this, last night we reported on the controversial teachings of Democratic candidate Barack Obama's Chicago-based church. A guest on our program likened Trinity Unity Church of Christ to a separatist movement, drawing comparisons to Branch Davidians.
Joining us now for a response to these claims from Trinity United is the Reverend Dr. Jeremiah Wright...

Hannity Invokes Martin Luther King While Race Baiting Barack Obama's Minister
Reported by Ellen - March 2, 2007
For the third night in a row, Sean Hannity not so subtly implied that Barack Obama might be a black racist and African separatist, a claim based on one page of Obama’s church’s website. Last night (3/1/07), Obama’s pastor appeared on Hannity & Colmes to defend the church and its policies. Hannity was more interested in playing the race card than he was in listening to the pastor’s explanations of the church’s doctrines. Unfortunately for Hannity, Rev. Dr. Jeremiah Wright knew just how to deal with Bullyboy Hannity. So after several fruitless attempts to badger Rev. Wright, Hannity hilariously pretended he wanted to be brought together in the spirit of Martin Luther King. With video.

It’s worth noting that during the two years I have blogged about him, Hannity has never observed Martin Luther King Day on Hannity & Colmes other than to use the occasion to bash African Americans who made speeches he didn’t like. But suddenly, last night he was an adherent. This time he was using the name of Dr. King to bash an African American.

In Debate Over Obama’s Claim That Right Wing Has Used Religion To Be Divisive, Hannity and Coulter Attacked Obama’s Faith
Reported by Ellen - June 26, 2007
Hannity & Colmes brought out Ann Coulter, of all people, to debate Barack Obama’s recent claim that issues of faith have been hijacked by the religious right and used to drive a wedge between Americans. Predictably, Coulter and Sean Hannity quickly turned the issue around to attack Obama and his faith, thus illustrating his very point. But that irony went unremarked by Democrats Laura Schwartz and Alan Colmes. With video...

Conspiracy Theorist Hannity Smears Obama’s Minister Again, Blames Hillary
Reported by Ellen - June 27, 2007
Less than a week after Sean Hannity made the questionable accusation that Hillary Clinton was behind some conspiracy to end conservative talk radio, Hannity blamed her for being behind negative press on Barack Obama and John Edwards and “alternating days” of whom she targeted. But within moments of saying that, Hannity baselessly attacked Obama’s minister and faith for the second night in a row and then Edwards. Is Hannity on Hillary’s oppo payroll? Just asking. With video...

As Obama Talks Religion, Questions Surround His Controversial Pastor
Barack Obama has put his religion back into the headlines, trumpeting the power and salvation of faith and asking a church audience in South Carolina to help him become “an instrument of God” and join him in creating “a Kingdom right here on Earth."

But the Democratic contender's talk on Sunday of breaking down religious and political differences has some critics questioning the Illinois senator's own beliefs — and those of the man identified as his spiritual adviser — and whether his messages of spiritual inclusion and tolerance have remained consistent.

Obama has written and spoken about being inspired by the preaching of the Rev. Jeremiah Wright Jr., and his calls to “spur social change.” The title of Obama’s second book, “The Audacity of Hope,” which essentially launched his presidential bid, was taken from a sermon by Wright.

Baptized in Wright’s Trinity United Church of Christ, Obama has been an active member for two decades, regularly attending services with his family under Wright's spiritual mentorship.

Some of Wright’s sermons, which often address themes of white supremacy and black repression, have come under scrutiny by those who interpret them as racially divisive. Such preaching, they believe, polarizes Americans rather than unites them.

One Day After Hannity Decried Racially Divisive Politics, He Tried To Smear Obama As An Anti-White, Anti-Semitic Bigot
Reported by Ellen - January 17, 2008
Sean Hannity was back at the race-card playing table last night, just one night after his big spiel against racially divisive politics. Predictably, he blamed the Democrats of doing it and then used his own accusation as “cover” for doing it himself. With video.

Tonight’s excuse for race-baiting was Richard Cohen’s column in The Washington Post in which Cohen tried to make a big deal out of the fact that the daughters of Obama’s minister (one of Hannity’s black boogeymen) selected Louis Farrakhan (Hannity’s biggest black boogeyman) for an award for epitomizing greatness. As icing on Hannity’s boogeyman cake, the award is named for Rev. Jeremiah A. Wright, Obama’s pastor. Never mind that Obama has already said he does not agree with Rev. Wright on some issues, particularly the matter of Farrakhan. That point was made in Cohen’s column but conveniently overlooked by Hannity.

In his bullyboy voice, Hannity said to his Democratic guest, “Steve McMahaon, that’s Barack Obama’s pastor praising the anti-Semite and the racist, Louis Farrakhan. Is that an issue we should care about in this campaign?” This, less than two weeks after Hannity was complaining about other people attacking MItt Romney and Mike Huckabee over their religion.

Dick Morris: The Clintons Deliberately Lost Black Votes In SC In Order To Create White Backlash
Once again, “fair and balanced” FOX News chose Dick Morris as the sole guest to smear, I mean analyze Hillary Clinton, this time in a discussion titled, as the lower third indicated, “Obama and Clinton battle over link to questionable businessman.” I’m sure it was unintentional that FOX News posted the question about both candidates while offering no real ties between either candidate and the questionable Tony Rezko. But the discussion was soon off to the races as Morris offered his novel theory that Bill Clinton was deliberately running a losing campaign for black votes in South Carolina in order to racially polarize the country and garner more of the white vote. With video.

Part 1 of the two-part discussion also included Morris alleging that Hillary Clinton had committed perjury, even though she had escaped prosecution (I’ll leave it to others to fact check Morris’ dubious assertions which can be viewed in the first video.)...

5. I believe that's the GOP plan.
Ignite a race war. That takes pressure off their piss-poor management of our affairs.

I have come to believe that in the last few days.

The media has shaped this. And we are going to face a whirlwind.

15. I really am starting to fear where this could go.
Rather than any intelligent discussion in our media right now, it's just playing into people's fears and prejudices, it seems. Of course, that's particularly true of Fox News, and I don't get cable, so I can't speak to all M$M. But, where is the voice of reason, other than Obama himself?

9. Hannity almost made me wreck while driving.
I knew turning it to Hannity that he would probably make me mad. But I had no idea how much it would.

While driving home today I turned to Hannity for a few minutes (thats all I could take) and he was saying the most vile things about Obama/Wright, making them as one..
Then he proceeded to play other black preacher sound bites 10's worse then Wright's and then try to tie Obama to them also.. WTF? I could not believe my ears. He had so much hate talking about Obama that he was trying to project on to his audience it was disgusting. I'm still shaking from hearing that garbage. How long can he keep this up? I'm sure his RW loon listeners are just as angry as I was but on the opposite side. There was so much hate in his voice though he must be turning off a big percentage. I cant believe any one can believe the extreme views this pathetic man pushes.

When a pro-Obama reverend told the world that Clinton was being racist, even though Jesse Jackson himself found nothing negative with Clinton's remarks that Jackson had twice won in SC and lost the nomination.

21. My purpose in bringing this here is totally different than other DUers' purpose
and that is my point. This needs to be seen for what it is: racism, prejudice, hate -- a concerted attempt to divide on racial grounds and playing to the fears and prejudices of the masses.

I have read thread after thread about Fox News over the preceding days, not in critique of their methods, but in support of their message.

And for the record, I was an Edwards supporter.

29. "ambushing someone with the cameras"
Take Back America Conference 2008 - Confrontation with Fox News
By Paradise Gray

snip -

As I approched the Regency Ballroom I noticed the Rev. Jessie Jackson being interviewed by Griff Jenkins from Fox News. Griff Jenkins was being very aggressive as he demanded that Rev. Jackson answer the question: "Do you or do you not condemn Barack Obama's former Pastor Rev. Wright?" When Rev. Jackson refused to answer in the way that Mr. Jenkins was asking, the FOX reporter would interupt him and ask the same question over and over. Rev. Jackson then accused Mr. Jenkins of using divisive tactics instead of covering the issues that are important to this election, and the American people such as the war in Iraq, health care and the economy, once again Mr. Jenkins rudely pushed his microphone towards Rev. Jackson's face and forcefully reiterated "Do you or do you not condemn Rev. Wright?"

I did not appreciate the way Mr. Jenkins was treating Rev. Jackson and loudly voiced my opinion as Rev. Jackson (annoyed by Mr. Jenkins un-professionalism) walked away.

snip -

Mr. Jenkins attempted to cut me off in the middle of sentences but I continued that I could quote him hundreds of statements from the bible that he would not agree with and he would not even recognize that I was quoting the bible unless I told him in advance.

snip -

guess that wasn't enough for Griff Jenkins because as soon as the panel was over, his FOX News TV crew pushed past other journalists on the stage who were asking Rev. Jackson questions about the 5th Anniversary of the start of the war in Iraq. Davey D happened to be one of the journalists who was patently waiting for his turn to ask Rev. Jackson some questions, when Griff Jenkins barged in and started dominating the conversation, repeatedly demanding Rev. Jackson to answer, and diverting from the questions that others were asking about the war Davey had seen and heard enough, he began asking Griff Jenkins why are you here? Aggressively pushing his mic in Griff Jenkins face as he had done Rev. Jackson, and stepping in front of a retreating Griff Jenkins asking, why are you here?

snip -

Davey encouraged others to flip the script on aggressive TV reporters that come in and try to set a tone that is contrary to the way that you are coming from, "you have a right to stop them from dominating the conversation and regain control. Fox News has declared war on people of color and puts them in a defensive position, has not given them a fair chance to answer back to salatious charges and assertions. They have one sided conversations by asking you questions and cutting you off before you have a chance to answer them. Fox News creates an agenda and then places people of color within that framework to underscore what they are trying to say.

Davey D said that what they tried to do to Rev. Jessie Jackson was a perfect example of "ambushing someone with the cameras" they kept asking Rev. Jackson over and over "why don't you denounce Rev. Wright?" ' And as Rev. Jackson tried to answer they would interrupt him with "why don't you denounce Rev. Wright?"
