Spoke with Joe Sixpack today
regarding yesterdays race speech. Joe has admitted to me in the past that he is prejudiced and was having a hard time with the thought of a Obama being President because of his race. He knows how bad (More of the Same) McCain would be, doesn't like Hillary and said he really likes Obama's plans and believes he has the intelligence to make a real change in DC.

I was anxious to talk to Joe to find out if the speech made a difference. I am very pleased to report, that YES it had. He said, "YES, I am okay with him now and I am very proud that we have a candidate that can talk in more than a 5 word sentence! He said the part where Obama shared about his Grandma made a big difference with him. I smiled because when I heard Obama speak of his Grandma, I knew that would be the statement that would break through the prejudice. You see, most of todays prejudicism began with the Grandparents. His speech taught them that it is okay that Grandma was, but to leave the racism or prejudice with Grandma.

If the speech made the Joe Sixpack I know overcome his prejudism enough to pledge support to Obama, I know there are so many better days ahead for us!

Hats off to Obama! Thank you for breaking through to Joe Sixpack! Looking forward to many more break throughs within America, thanks to you, Barack Obama!

3. That speech gave us more than
the usual soundbites and all this had to happen to get us here. Obama keeps stepping up to the challenges presented to him.

Obama words takes us beyond Black and White.

4. Well, I'm married to Jim six-pack
My husband is a 56 year old union laborer. We live in a town of 900 people in Southern Illinois. He and his buddies all are Democrats. At dinner this evening he said " So everybody's ok with Obama again because of the speech he made yesterday?" I responded that seemed to be the case. Jim six packs response. "I don't know what the big deal was, everything that preacher said was true anyway." The mainstream noise machine has no clue what so ever what the people in the heartland really think.

7. I don't understand why it is OK for grandma to be prejudiced
And I don't think Obama said that either. And todays "prejudicism" has nothing to do with grandma, it has to do with ignorance and hatred, like all bigotry.

8. The ignorance and hatred began years ago
and should have ended long ago. Some people have continued to be racist or prejudiced because they were ignorant or simply because "Grandma led them to be" The speech let them know that even though your Grandma was prejudiced, it doesn't mean you should continue to be.

10. it's not ok...
it's just part of who she is becuase she comes from a different era. We can reject that mentality without rejecting her.

In essence we don't throw out the baby with the bathwater.

25. It's not as easy to change the elderly as you seem to think -- the young can be taught, however
Edited on Thu Mar-20-08 01:34 AM by Drachasor
For instance, most scientific revolutions really revolve around people stuck in the old ways dying off. And I am talking about scientists here!

And you can accept a person, flaws and all, while still condemning some of those flaws (such as prejudice).
