Mike Huckabee defends Obama and Wright
Just came across this on youtube and didn't notice it discussed her earlier today, so sorry if it's already been posted.

Mike Huckabee does just what it says in the thread title; defends Obama, praises his speech, and offers conciliatory thoughts regarding Reverend Wright, refusing to condemn him. Laugh if you like, but I've always thought Huckabee is a class act, despite having fundamental disagreements with him on many issues.

10. Economic populist + social conservative
= electoral victory. Fortunately the GOP didn't wake up to that fact.

On a personal level I think I like the guy. I just don't want him to be President.

11. Agree.
He's the embodiment of the crazy, but nice evangelical friend everyone has. You know, the one who's good for a beer but will expound on his disbelief in evolution if you start talking politics.

23. Huckabee is no straight shooter.
He's a Clinton hater whose hatred tarnished his judgment before the parole board. He set the wheels in motion so Wayne Dumond could be released from prison to rape and kill two women. Yes, two.

Huckabee is just getting in some extra whacks here.

8. baffling
I can't believe that the person I just watched make those thoughtful, eloquent comments is the same person who supported quarantining AIDS victims in 1992.

I can't help thinking that an Obama vs. Huckabee presidential campaign would have been one of the most civil and high-minded in U.S. history.

12. That's the contest I was hoping to see, actually
I think Huckabee is a weirdo in that he doesn't believe in evolution, and that his faith-based stance points to dangerous weaknesses in leadership when faced with urgent problems that demand pragmatic solutions. On the other hand, I think he's a decent and sincere guy that walks it like he talks it. I'm sure we'll see him as a candidate again or in some other capacity and if so I look forward to it because I think he's got a lot to offer as a public servant.

The things he said and did for the survivors really impressed me.

15. Goddamn! I can't believe I'm hearing that out of the mouth of a Republican.
Especially considering some of the shit that Clinton supporters have been slinging here on DU. I think some DUers really need to take a look in the mirror when a guy who doesn't even believe in evolution suddenly sounds more enlightened than some of you supposed Democrats.

16. Many Huckabee People Switched to Obama
Edited on Thu Mar-20-08 04:11 AM by crankychatter
On CSPAN every day... Huckabee supporters said that if their man didn't get the Republican nomination they would vote for Obama in the General Election.

At no time have I heard an analysis of this phenomenon... the jaded pundits just scratch their heads in amazement.

It doesn't surprise me one iota... not a little bit.

Obama's crisp, consistent moral perspective is a consequence of being schooled in Spiritual Principles, and regardless of whether or not you agree with Huckabee otherwise, that's something he understands.

Social Conservatives and many others are FED UP WITH THIS HORRIFIC WAR, and the corruption in Washington DC..

Remember the Right to Lifers standing side by side with the likes of Moveon.org for Net Neutrality?

Obama could sweep this nation in the General Election.

17. I should add
Very extensive sociological studies have concluded, that Southern People are more capable of overcoming their own racism than Northerners.

The reason is there is a cultural affinity and familiarity with Black people. Despite segregation, in the rural south, there was living and working proximity between the people. Albeit against their will, Southern Culture is the adoptive culture of Black people in the U.S..

With education, Southerners do very well overcoming prejudice. Northerners... sometimes second or third generation Americans... have ZERO cultural affinity, and their racism is often intractable.

See? It's not so baffling.

Inversely, this also explains a substantial amount of the VIRULENT anti-Obama sentiment among Clinton supporters and the Eastern Seaboard "Liberal Elite."

18. If Obama gets the Nomination
Dollars to donuts he carries Louisiana, Missouri, West Virginia, Tennessee and possibly Georgia.

He will lose South Dakota and Iowa.

See?

That ain't just Black folks.

He made some excellent points and he articulated them in a way I hadn't heard from anyone else.

I like him too, in a strange way. He has a great sense of humor and is definately intelligent, but he has some batshit crazy social beliefs. He's sure an enigma.

25. Well, Huckabee just ailianated all Clinton supporters.. wait for them to start piling on..
Huckabee is an odd bird. I totally disagree with his stances on social issues. I agree with him somewhat on fiscal issues. I think he has a great sense of humor. I think he has about as many skeletons in his closet as Hillary does - they just never dug very far because they knew he wasn't viable.

But, I will say after watching this - I do have some respect for the man. I would never be able to vote for him, but that doesn't mean I can't like him too. My father in law is one of my favorite people - but politically we're on opposite ends of the spectrum... doesn't mean I can't still like him!
