I Told People this Wright Story Would Last to the End of the Week
I didn't think his speech would end the discussion, I thought it would force a new context. You could clearly see how determined the media was in driving this down our throats and now it's blatantly obvious. I think though that if it continues into next week (Monday), then we need to organize a complaint operation. The amount of coverage this has recieved is clearly aimed at severely damaging...if not bringing down Obama's campaign.

Clinton, for all intents and purposes, has absolutely no shot at recieving the nomination. But it's obvious that the media has kept her alive this whole time for whatever reason and it's also clear this smear is aimed at helping her campaign and the Republicans. Maybe there was fear within the media establishment that they couldn't allow Obama to go into the General without his hands tied behind his back. Or maybe it was because all of Clinton's attempts to smear Obama either wasn't working how she hoped or didn't work at all. But it's not like the media didn't know about Obama's church...it's been out there for months. So the timing of this raises questions to me. Whatever the reason, the intention is clear. Conservatives control the media...not liberals. The idea of a liberal media is a damn myth. There's nothing at all liberal about them, but to the far-right...everyone outside of their niche group is a liberal.

2. Not my problem.
The MSM has their collective ass glued to Obama's ass. They still do.
The pundits are still swooning over his speech.
You are full of s**t. Anything less than glowing adoration of Obama is percieved as attacks by you Obamites.

After a while on GD-P, you do see patterns. You do see that it's a relatively small subset of trolls that are making all the nasty comments, and arguing with them just feeds them.

So yeah. I ignore them now. I just don't have the time or the patience to argue with people who refuse to see reason and who get their jollies out of trolling, pissing people off and seeing the board filled up with flamage. There's little point to feeding that behavior. Especially since I'll bet a large subset of the trolls are freepers who are using the primary as an in on DU that keeps them from being immediately tombstoned, and come to stir the shit.

So now, I plonk them, and if they're really offensive or showing things like veiled dog-whistle bigotry, I'll alert on them.

4. uh............I hate to be the bearer of unwelcome news..
...but this story is going to play, and play, and play in parts of America. It will be incessant. Stories like that never get corrected in the minds of people who aren't paying much attention.

And it doesn't matter so much what WE think. The story has affected independents in a huge negative way already. 60+ percent think less of him because of Wright.

Just because it may fade from cable TV, don't assume it isn't still circulating.

5. According to an article posted here, the SD's are watching to see if
the media's attempts to wreck Obama on a racial smear will work. They will not defend him, or even blacks in general who are starting to cry foul over this endless smear, because they want to see if his skin color makes him unelectable. I am so disgusted, I don't know what to do.

7. It is definitely time to organize some protest actions against the MSM.
Certainly, the letters are a good place to start, but we should also look at advertisers - call or write or email the biggest advertisers on the various news networks and ask them to stop financially supporting media outlets that are smearing or swiftboating Obama.

I don't think we should wait. We need to start these actions now.

10. The new context is Obama's hypocrisy ...
Not that of his uber partisan supporters like Keith Obermann who ooze hypocrisy (video clip),
but Obama's own statements.

The clips being played in the news today relate to his strong condemnation of Don Imus' racist remarks several months ago. Obama was right to publicly condem Imus (video clip), and ask for his firing, but his recent speech serves only to illustrate a double-standard he has set for himself. Some call it hypocrisy.

12. Some call your point a "nontroversy."
A double standard? I'm sorry, but did you not listen to Barack Obama publicly condemn Rev. Wright's remarks? Like, over and over and over and over and over?

And how do you fire a preacher who is retiring and has delivered his last sermon?

Look, I know Clinton types have no problem with throwing people under the bus (God I hate that expression) for political gain, but as for me, well, not so much.

14. You do understand that Hillary's next.
She will be next. The only reason why they're swiftboating Obama now is because Hillary's easier to beat in the general.

If (and that's a very, very big if) she becomes the Democratic nominee, she's gonna get her own swiftboating. Rupert Murdoch, Roger Ailes, and their rich right wing media buddies in the industry will see to it.

Don't come crying back to us when that happens - you had the chance to tell the media "Enough!" when they swiftboated Obama, but you sat back and watched.

13. I may be in a minoority here, but
looking at the bigger picture, this isn't all bad. You know the saying, 'no such thing as bad publicity'. In the bigger picture, it still gets Obama the candidate out there, and heard. People are used to seeing and hearing shit slinging during any election, anyway.

It gives him an awful lot of exposure that he might otherwise not have gotten at all. It is only March, after all. And he's not the only candidate out there with other little tidbits of MSM fodder.

She won TX's primary by a hair, then lost what she gained in TX's caucuses.

Obama got the most delegates in Texas.

33. They were cherry-picked.
There are hundreds and hundreds of hours of Rev. Wright's sermons available on video tape. Most of them are pretty boring, or actually decent and uplifting.

Out of all those hundreds of hours of sermons, FOX News & the right wingers picked the few parts where Rev. Wright blew a fuse, started ranting and said some hurtful and divisive things.

Of course, it was inappropriate and stupid and hurtful for Rev. Wright to say things like "God damn America."

So I have some questions of you.

1. Do you think Rev. Wright said things like that every Sunday like some crazy cartoon character, or is he an imperfect human being like all of us who sometimes says vicious divisive things, and sometimes does good, kind things?

2. Where has Obama ever endorsed the hateful, stupid things Wright has said? Do you have anything at all to suggest that Obama agrees with what Wright says, or are you going to repeat right-wing talking points that come from the old guilt-by-association smear? He's come on record multiple times rejecting and denouncing Wright's hurtful remarks.

36. 1. I don't know what he said the other Sundays, wasn't there
but I can tell you .... if I were in a church and the preacher was
preaching "God Damn America", the govt invented AIDS, that Bill Clinton
rode blacks "like he rode Monica Lewinsky" I would leave.
If I saw people jumping to their feet and screaming in approval and the
amen choir patting him on the back I would leave.
That's just my "JUDGMENT" I realize some people think he's terrific
and a great spiritual adviser and mentor but I disagree.

2. He has spoken out against the "controversial" statements.
In my opinion, he should be specific. Did the govt invent AIDS?
Did the govt know about Pearl Harbor in advance? Did Bill Clinton
ride blacks like he rode Monica?
Again, that's just my opinion.

30. If you're talking metrics, the delegate count is the only one that matters.
The delegate count is what determines who gets the nomination at the convention. Not poll numbers, not who won the primary or who won the caucus. The delegate count is what wins this ball game.

Granted, if you don't think that's fair, you're free to push for different rules for the next election, but today, it's the delegates.
