Polls are meaningless this week
For those looking at this week's polls.... DON'T! The polls next week will reflect the public's reaction to Obama's great speech. The polls this week reflect the pre-speech mood and opinions.

4. He's a goner...
.... White folks have created an entire sublanguage to avoid talking about race - locutions like "oversensitive", "it's just a joke", politically correct", "reverse racism", etc.

White folks'll never forgive him for talking seriously about race.

6. White folks over 50 years old.. you're probably right... white folks under 50.... you're dead wrong.
Edited on Thu Mar-20-08 10:36 AM by scheming daemons

The post-boomer generation doesn't harbor the same innate racist attitudes of their parents and grandparents.

21. Haven't read enough of what Wright's characterizations are - dunno...
... But you're welcome to go ahead and cluck about reverse racism anyway if you want. It's extra funny in this case because I'm white, but I doubt that'll cause you to miss a beat.

LOL! That's a good one.

you know you are Karl Rove are both white, so does that mean should be grouped together? Does it mean you think alike or share the same values? How about we throw George Bush into your "white folks" group, are we getting a clearer picture?

26. (shrug) I agree it's difficult to understand what I say when one is too stupid to grasp...
... the concept of an average, or a center of mass etc.

But that's a lack of the listener I'm not in a position to remedy.

9. I just don't agree with that statement
In many ways, your comments seem as wrong and offensive as Wrights. I don't think people can be lumped into groups, like you did, and then speak for all of them.

10. He had a speech and it took a day or so for people to hear it
or read about it. What you are not appreciating is that polls are the opinions of people roughly 3-7 days ago. The polling is over a period of days and there usually is a 2-3 day lag time. Just read the "find print" of any poll. That will tell you what time period was being measured.

14. I wouldn't say meaningless, but should be taken with a grain of salt
Obama is losing ground against McCain and Clinton because he's having a bad week. I am sure that Bill Clinton was not polling very well during the Gennifer Flowers scandal. If his poll numbers remain this bad for a month it's cause for concern.

30. uh huh sure they are and as long as obama keeps sinking in
them to begin the new week on sunday then when more polls come out and obama is still falling I guess polls will still not mean anything then too.....

Until Tuesday, Obama said the only thing controversial he knew about Rev. Wright was his stand on issues relating to Africa, abortion and gay marriage. "I don't think my church is actually particularly controversial," Obama said at a community meeting in Nelsonville, Ohio, earlier this month.

Obama wrote when he talked to Wright about the reality of class divisions, and mentioned how one of Wright’s assistants underlined "the tendency of those with means to move out of the line of fire." Wright replied:

"I’ve given Tracy my opinion about moving out of the city,’ he said quietly. "That boy of hers is gonna get out there and he won’t have a clue about where, or who, he is."

"It’s tough to take chances with your child’s safety."

"Life’s not safe for a black man in this country, Barack. Never has been. Probably never will be."

So much for the audacity of hope.
