Fox News and the Rev. Wright
an analogy to remove the highly charged issue of race relations

This is why Obama's speech on race does not answer the question of his judgement and the issue will remain.

The question is how we can trust your judgement based on your long term relationship with Fox News.

I have spent 20 years watching Fox News Channel, it is my mentor and my adviser. I know all of the show hosts by name they are like family to me.

Yes I have heard controversial statements on Fox News.

You have to understand their has been a lot of misinformation about Fox News out there. You have to understand the need for right wing talking points to counter all the liberal media.

I can no more disown Fox News Channel than I can my grandmother who has listened to the liberal media.

What we need to address is the liberal media, and what we can do to make them understand the damage that has been done.

It may not be the best analogy, but do you see why this issue, question, of Obama's judgement will continue?

Would you elect the candidate that has Fox News as his mentor? Didn't think so.

1. But I swear I never heard of Bill O'Reilly!

Seriously, Obama is far too intelligent to not know exactly (at least the nature of) what was said by Mr. Wright -- he is his mentor after all.

2. It is a stupid ananlogy
Trinity United Church of Christ is a concrete community, serving the needs of the people in the area surrounding it. It has nothing to do with sitting in your living room listening to a tee vee show. It is about people getting together, helping one another, providing ministries to those who are poor and in need. The church has over 170 ministries serving the people in the area, and all you think it is about is a few statements made by a old pastor.

3. If you watched Fox News, but didn't agree with them..... no problem......

Your analogy is VERY weak.

I watch Fox News sometimes.... to yell at the screen... it's cathartic. Doesn't mean I support them or agree with them.

9. I watch for the same reason. It's an available window into the wingnut soul.
(But my wife thinks I'm nuts for ever venturing into that cesspool.)

6. and Obama states the question better than I, but doesn't answer it
"On the other end, we've heard my former pastor, Jeremiah Wright, use incendiary language to express views that have the potential not only to widen the racial divide, but views that denigrate both the greatness and the goodness of our nation and that rightly offend white and black alike."

7. Fox News is about serving the corporate masters. Wright's message is protecting the masses.
what kind of fucked up Democrat would not be able to tell the difference?

8. Wright's messsage increases the racial divide
Obama can see it why can't you?

From his speech:
"On the other end, we've heard my former pastor, Jeremiah Wright, use incendiary language to express views that have the potential not only to widen the racial divide, but views that denigrate both the greatness and the goodness of our nation and that rightly offend white and black alike."

What he doesn't answer is why, as a unifier, he would support such a message for over 20 years.

10. Obama was part of
a church that was a part of a community that was part of a larger community and so on. The church is much larger than the few words of Rev. Wright that keep being played on the news. I would assume at the church, Obama interacted with a whole host of people, and that the church helped a whole host of people. You people act like Obama was sitting in an empty room with images of of Rev. Wright's inflammatory comments being played at him nonstop from a little box. Do you think Obama should denounce the 8000+ people that go to Wright's church. Should Obama denounce the Church's HIV/AIDS ministry, its mintries to seniors, its dance ministry, its ministry to singles, its prison ministry, its career development ministry, and on and on. Your ananlogy is so stupid it isn't even an analogy.

13. Obama cannot denounce any of it
it would belie his 20 year support

and therein lies the problem

14. ????
Why wouldn't Obama want to support TUCC? From what I hear the church has done a lot of good. Obama denounced specific comments. No need to denounce the church and all of its members nor everything that Rev. Wright has done. Clearly you think the whole church and all its members should be denounced and condemned. That's a pretty narrow view to take from a few snippets of some inflammatory sermons. And, by the way, your analogy really is stupid. Analogies are only effective when they compare things that are sufficiently similar.

15. you are making unfounded assumptions, I have never made any comments on TUCC

or the members

How can clearly see anything when you are jumping to conclusions about what someone else thinks?

I just said Obama cannot and should not denounce either. Just read the words I typed, not the space between them.

16. Well if you are criticizing Obama for being a member
Edited on Thu Mar-20-08 01:58 PM by CatsDogsBabies
then I assume the same criticism applies to anyone who is a member. With you people, I assume that anyone who is a long standing member, who has had their child baptized by Rev. Wright or had Rev. Wright officiate at their wedding is worthy of condemnation. hey, why limit your condemnation to Obama? Might as well go after the whole church, which is basically what you are doing. Obama is being condemned for being a member of this church, don't you think other members of this church are getting the message?

Talk about reading into things! Going to the church means supporting a message a racial separation? You're looney.

11. I give you a few points for not comparing Wright to a KKK member as many on DU have already done.
That said, your analogy sucks. Try again.

12. Brain Damage
The lunatic is on the grass.
The lunatic is on the grass.
Remembering games and daisy chains and laughs.
Got to keep the loonies on the path.

The lunatic is in the hall.
The lunatics are in my hall.
The paper holds their folded faces to the floor
And every day the paper boy brings more.

And if the dam breaks open many years too soon
And if there is no room upon the hill
And if your head explodes with dark forebodings too
I'll see you on the dark side of the moon.

The lunatic is in my head.
The lunatic is in my head
You raise the blade, you make the change
You re-arrange me 'til I'm sane.
You lock the door
And throw away the key
There's someone in my head but it's not me.

And if the cloud bursts, thunder in your ear
You shout and no one seems to hear.
And if the band you're in starts playing different tunes
I'll see you on the dark side of the moon.
