Obama's hyped speech did even less for him than Romney's hyped bust of a speech did for him
Romney gained two and a half points nationally from it. Obama gained one, if you are generous and assume the 1 point change is due to the hype and not the natural up and downs in a tracking poll produced by margin of error...

Versus Clinton

3/17 0 46, H 44
3/18 0 45, H 44
Post-speech, post-media spin of it for a full day: 0 46, H 43

So he gained an entire point and even that is more likely due to natural fluctuations produced by the margin of error, not because he gave the greatest speech ever. :sarcasm:

http://www.rasmussenreports.com/public_content/politics/election_20082/2008_presidential_election/daily_presidential_tracking_poll

Favorability ratings

3/17 47 fav, 50 unfav
3/18 48 fav, 49 unfav

Post-speech/post-hype: 48 fav, 49 unfav

These are from Rasmussen also.

8. You know, this is the kind of divisive talk that is fucking up DU...
You don't have a crystal ball any more than any of the rest of us. Face it, Obamaniacs use polls that show Obama on top, and Hillbots use polls that show Clinton on top. Why can't you just let what is be what is instead of being the schoolyard loud mouthed bully? Why not leave the "neener neener" at home? Why do we have to see bullshit posts like this? What you are saying very well may come to pass... but to say it in such a fucked up gnarly self important way only serves to piss people off. Oh, but that is clearly what you intended, right?

and held that way for weeks, and that Clinton had a 5 point lead over Obama in national opinion polls for ... lets say three weeks before the convention. Would you then be okay with the supers going with the will of the people? Perosnally I don't know how I would feel about that. but... it's a possibility.

The clips they saw were of him saying racism is bad and announcing on television that his grandmother is a racist. Stating the obvious and throwing your granny who raised you under the bus isn't going to give you a bounce.

36. "Hey world: my granny is a racist and that is my defense of not rejecting my pastor/mentor"
That is one of the few clips folks heard and it wasn't a good one for Obama. He equated the woman who raised him with someone who he chose to associate with for two decades. That made no sense. Calling out your granny simply is classless and will be seen as such by many folks. In the end, as I said during the hype both before and after the speech, it won't make a real difference. Neither did Romney's speech.

63. What do you mean "a speech no one saw"?
This is absurd nonsense. Over 2,000,000 people have watched the entire 37-minute speech on YouTube in only two days, easily shattering viewership records there. Who knows how many others watched part or most of it? They aren't in the 2,000,000+ count, which continues to grow.

And yet I have to read obnoxious drivel from uninformed poster "jackson_dem" saying that "no one saw" the speech.

I'm curious. Is there something wrong with you? Aren't you embarrassed to post such foolishness in public? Hello?

45. I don't really understand your question
but I think I may know what you are trying to say.

First off, people watching the video have rated it extremely high so it is obviously effective. Yes I know some of those are Obama fans giving it 5 stars, but a lot are Hillary/McCain fans giving it 1. Overall, the rating is very impressive.

Second, I am not just referring to the video by my post. A few things that need to be kept in mind:
1. This is just 1 poll
2. It it just 1 day after the live speech. this doesn't include much of the viral.
3. A few percentages points in well within MoE
4. Its a 4 day tracking poll, so maybe the 5th day included in yesterday was higher
5. I don't think most people will watch the speech and immediately say "I am voting for Obama". What I do think will happen is for most people who watch it, they will have a higher respect for him and this will start changing the mood towards Obama.

In my opinion, we should really give it more time and see more polls.

Nobody is voting today. Nobody is voting tomorrow. Nobody is voting next week, or the week after.

Lets just give it time and see what happens.

That has nothing to do with him losing ground before the speech.

A one point gain is meaningless, especially in a tracking poll. Margin of error exists.
