BO workers out to sign up “Democrat for the Day” in PA: “got quite a few Repugs”

Anne Davies
March 21, 2008

….At Doylestown, a picturesque town just 80kilometres north, with about 20,000 people, the Obama office is in full swing. Two more volunteers, Clare McCann, 18 who's home for holidays, and Stefanie Alexander, 23, a resident, are walking, signing up new voters or convincing Republicans and independents to switch their voter registration to participate in the Democratic primary. Registration closes next Monday and new voters have been critical to Senator Obama's success.

"We were outside the Wa-Wa this week and we got quite a few Republicans," Ms McCann said. "We give them two forms - one to change their registration now for the primary and one so they can switch back later," she said.

1. Obama is actually trying to pull in swing voters for the general

not for "one day only", like the repugs in Ohio who voted for Hillary in spite
of the fact that they hate her. She's the weak candidate in their eyes. They'll
vote for McCain in the general.

Nice try (NOT). Talk about trying to turn the tables, even though all the news
agencies have proof that the Hillary-repugs votes swung the Ohio election
(thanks Rush), and have printed this story. You are so see through. Ew.

18. What is the point? Obama wants republicans to vote for him?
So what... I thought that was the point... to get the most votes and the most delegates.

Hey, it's politics and it's legal. Deal with it. Isn't that what you guys tell us when we complain that she is trying to steal it with the supers?

If you don't like the game... don't play.

3. You can't be a Democrat for a day in PA
You have to be a Democrat for at least 30 days. And voter registration in PA is so horribly out of whack with voting patterns, so this makes a lot of sense. A lot of the people in PA who voted for Kerry and voted for Gore are not registered Dems, and a lot of the registered Dems voted for Bush twice. so it makes sense to do this.

8. We Are Registering Mostly Independents To Vote In The Primary...
And offering a second voter registration if they want to switch back to independent after the primary. Your OP is misleading at best, a bold face lie if you're accusing the Obama camp of pulling the kind of shit that fat Limpballs is pulling for our girl.

sleazy tactics that the Limbaugh repugs have been doing. THAT
is SMEARING. And you had the audacity of accusing me of using
RW media smears.

9. This is a practice in many states
Both sides use it regardless of what you may read or hear. I know first-hand.

Most of the people who enroll as Democrats for the purpose of voting in the primary are unenrolled (independents.)

All perfectly legal and not worth getting upset about. Sorry.

The repugs in Ohio, registered as dems for the sole purpose of
screwing up our elections by voting for Hillary. I saw people interviewed
about this.

This is true .

21. Meh doesn't matter how you register
For the GE. This is a sales tactic plain and simple. Convince people to "try it on" as it were. Nothing wrong with it.

And even if he doesn't win PA, which he probably won't, he just has to keep her from smoking him 65-35 or there abouts to pretty much seal the nom.

She's done.

30. Um, the general election is not closed.
For obvious reasons.

There are many people out there who, despite which candidate they support, do feel comfortable calling themselves Democrats.

And with the tactics of some Democrats in these primaries, can you blame them?
