I've had my doubts in recent days whether this current controversy will become Obama's Dean scream, or McCain black baby. But after listening to his speech on youtube, I believe in his judgment and good sense more than ever. I don't know if the complexity of the message will resonate with the American people--when people are angry, it's not better to walk out of the room, but rather to understand the source of that anger--but I will always be proud to say I supported him.

(Don't get me wrong. I think he'll still probably win the nomination.)

1. Obama is the best speaker of the last two generations - he is with us for a while :-)

2. Me too
That's what I said to my mom after his speech Tuesday. I said "no matter what, he ends the day with his head held high and his beliefs in tact, and I can be proud to have supported him."

I hold out hope that he can recover, but if not, I'm more proud now than I ever was to have volunteered, made phone calls, and donated to his campaign.

3. Oh, I get it, He's too good for us.

I thought the definition of a good speaker was the ability to get his message across.

6. If you have ears closed, you won't be able to listen to anyone, no matter

how good of a speaker. I hope people will have them open, but I've been a cynic about the American people the last 8 years. After all, they re-elected Bush in 2004.

9. People who disagree with Obama are not open minded?
This is the most overt I have heard it rationalized.

He is "The One" and those who have yet to come to him are sinners.

13. Yeah, I think he should be the president. Wasn't that obvious?

8. Maybe so ... if we fall for the divisive kitchen sink strategy
instead of listening to our better angels. In that case, yes, I'm afraid he is
too good for us.

12. ALL churches sell their ministers' sermons on their sites ...
This is not because they're particularly PROUD (although they may be) --
it's because they have to MAKE MONEY. Even if they're "non-profit"
organizations, they still have expenses to pay.

And these sermons were given ... HOW many years ago? If you think their
exposure now ISN'T part of Clinton's desperate "kitchen sink" strategy,
then ... :eyes:

4. With an "army" of over 1 million...we can do this
Better mobilization, better truth-telling, massive communication to the media to say we just won't take it anymore... there is a lot that can be done.

5. Same here
Frankly, I think if we don't elect Obama, the rest of the world will roll our eyes and give up on for another 4 years. But whatever happens, I'm proud that he's running as a candidate in this election.

7. I agree -- he has assured his place in our history for the campaign he's run
Even if he doesn't succeed, he TRIED to change the dialogue in this country
(and not just about race, but about the way campaigns are run). He may end
up as the black Adlai Stevenson -- the best candidate who never got to be
president.

11. It's too early to be defeatist! Get a grip!!
Comments like "even if he doesn't win" mentally prepare you for loss and may diminish your energy for doing the necessary job. He is AHEAD, Clinton CANNOT catch up, once people have a chance to see Obama and McCain on the same stage McCain will be practically UNELECTABLE. Do not forget the power of the millions who have already voted for Obama and the millions more who will vote for him in the general election.
