New SUSA state polls spell disaster for Obama |
|
Edited on Thu Mar-20-08 01:54 PM by nickn777
Always important to focus on individual state polls rather than conflicting national ones:
Minnesota on 2/18 -- Obama by 15 Minnesota today -- McCain by 1
Wisconsin 2/18 -- Obama by 11 Wisconsin today -- Obama by 4
Massachusetts on 2/29 -- Obama by 7 Massachusetts today - TIED, yes TIED in Mass. for Obama Massachusetts today - Clinton by 13 over McCain
Kentucky today -- McCain by 10 over Clinton Kentucky today -- McCain by 36, yes 36 over Obama
and finally, two real bellweather states:
Missouri -- McCain by only 2 over Clinton (virtual tie) Missouri -- McCain by 14 over Obama
Ohio -- Clinton by 6 over McCain Ohio -- McCain by 7 over Obama

1. If the press would expose McCain's incompetence, then the polls |
|
would be much different, and if they exposed the controversial pastors that back Hillary and McCain like they have done Rev. Wright then Hillary and McCain would be losing ground too.

The sucky MSM is so pro-Obama its absurd. Keith Olbermann, Chris Matthews, etc, have a nightly gushfest over Obama and trash Clinton for most of their respective programs....

25. Why should YOU be trusted? You think we can't assess the media ourselves and |
|
determine their machinations? Some of us have been supporting members of FAIR since the early 90s, some longer than that.
Some of us KNOW who has a controlling share of the major news networks and know that House of Saud only trusts Bushes and Clintons to protect their interests.
Trying to sell DU that all the corporate media is pro-Obama is absurd.

4. it's not merely about "backing"! |
|
it's the relationship that Obama had with Wright over 20 years, its the membership in an organization led by wright that he never walked away from...its the "stuff" that that organization endorsed, like giving a lifetime achievement award to farrakhan, etc...It's not just some preacher endorsing some candidate, it's far more than that.
I still believe that Clinton has the best chance of winning in a GE, and i think that the state polls are showing that now.

6. Exactly. The only reason McCain is doing well is that all attacks are on Obama.. |
|
And no one is talking about either he or Hillary.
That's clearly not going to be the case in the general election.
But hey, it looks like Hillary's "elect me or else" strategy seems to be working. Not so much for her though as it seems that Independents are choosing "or else".

Are we looking at lifetime polls or polls from the past week? |
|
I'm talking about the media coverage that directly influences the polls of this week (as compared to the polls from last week).

10. They are meaningless for BOTH Clinton and Obama. Here's why: |
|
Edited on Thu Mar-20-08 03:18 PM by Political Heretic
If McCain was beating Clinton but not Obama, it would be meaningless - I say that as an Obama supporter If McCain was beating Obama but not Clinton, it would be meaningless If McCain was beating both it wold be meaningless.
Until we have a nominee and stop this insane primary process you can expect these numbers to only get worse for both Obama and Clinton.
McCain right now is enjoying next to no media scrutiny, while the media is exhaustively covering every dirty, dark, nasty detail of this completely self-destructive and pointless (because Obama has already got the nomination locked up) "race" on the democratic side.
Every week it goes on, you're going to see negatives for both Clinton and Obama rise. Every week it goes on, you're going to see both Clinton and Obama drop against McCain. Sometimes one more. Sometimes the other one more. But both. Every week. Until this is over.
When this is over, the DNC and the nominee can begin to spend its money against McCain, pressure the media for attention to McCain, and start making the case effectively against McCain - and he has LOTS AND LOTS of material to draw from.
When that happens, you'll see these numbers both become more REAL and look more in our FAVOR.

|
Until we have a nominee and stop this insane primary process you can expect these numbers to only get worse for both Obama and Clinton. We have two nominees, they have one, get it? So how can such polls possibly mean anything? Until the parties have one candidate each, such polls are both inherently dishonest and statistically useless.

19. Unfortunately, election day will also be "at the height of the Wright controversy" |
|
The thing about a stage-managed media flap is that it is managed.
Wright-mania is a perennial, and all it takes to push it is money and media allies. Remember the Sinclair Broadcasting showings of the swift boat "documentary"?

Polls in March do not have much effect on November. Polls in March after a week of attacks on one candidate mean even less, if the trend is that candidate is beginning to recover.

22. Some other states look better |
|
He's actually up by a point in Virginia, and he's still up in New Mexico, he's up 6 in Iowa (Clinton is down 4), he's stronger against McCain in Washington, and even though he's lost ground in Wisconsin, he's still 4 points ahead, which is 3 points more than Kerry won it by in 2004. Clinton only leads by 1 (statistically tied).
It's been a rough week. Of course he has lost ground. But I am hopeful that he can recover. If polls stay like this for a month it is cause for concern.

23. Why didn't you give results of all the new polls on SUSA? |
|
Edited on Thu Mar-20-08 03:36 PM by book_worm
In Oregon Obama runs better than Hillary (11-points lead over McCain compared to 6-point lead by Hill). Washington Obama leads by 11 compared to 5 for Hillary. You also didn't mention that Obama still runs better than Hill in Wisconsin. NM Obama is very competitve (both lead McCain by six), VA Obama has a one-point lead over McCain. NY Obama runs almost as well as Hillary and same as in CA. There is no doubt that Wright has hurt Obama but most of these polls are taken before the Obama speech. These will be up and down and Obama will come back.
btw, here is a link to Survey USA for those who want to look at ALL THE POLLS, not just pick and choose the ones that look better for Hillary like the OP does: www.surveyusa.com Given the week Obama has had he's not doing all that badly--better than I would have thought.

You cherry picked states while ignoring the two important bell weather states like Ohio and Missouri?
You kool-aid drinkers are incredible. When Obama is doing well in the polls you use it as reason for everyone to drink the kool-aid and when the polls show the exact opposite you try to dismiss them.
