So Wright was Invited to the White House in the 90s?
Edited on Thu Mar-20-08 06:36 PM by redstate_democrat

SEPT 11, 1998 in honor of religious leaders.

Let's look at Hillary's schedule to see if she was at the WH that day

Interesting story here: http://query.nytimes.com/gst/fullpage.html?res=9E04E5DD1631F932A2575AC0A96E958260

The speech he gave that day asking for FORGIVENESS for Monica Lewinsky...using the clergy!

Thank you very much, ladies and gentlemen. Welcome to the White House and to this day to which Hillary and the Vice President and I look forward so much every year.

This is always an important day for our country, for the reasons that the Vice President said. It is an unusual and, I think, unusually important day today. I may not be quite as easy with my words today as I have been in years past, and I was up rather late last night thinking about and praying about what I ought to say today. And rather unusual for me, I actually tried to write it down. So if you will forgive me, I will do my best to say what it is I want to say to you -- and I may have to take my glasses out to read my own writing.

First, I want to say to all of you that, as you might imagine, I have been on quite a journey these last few weeks to get to the end of this, to the rock-bottom truth of where I am and where we all are.

Yes, more Preacher crap.

Who cares about these self-appointed moralists who are not supposed to influence their congregations' political choices....directly anyway. Black or white, preachers are useless. Why give these actors who read too much into ancient texts and who whip up emotional frenzies in other people who should know better.... why give them such authority?
I'm sick to death of Faith based anything having to do with this election. Sure, you can't get religion to go away completely but since the Repugs cynically courted the Fundie Christian nut vote it's just gotten out of hand. Enough already!

The Obamaniacs will stop at nothing to excuse their candidate and any of his friends or associates, if they can they'll some how twist it so that Wright is just a big, old, lovable teddy bear and Rezko only gave Obama all that money because he's really Santa Claus!

Did she do it when her advisers were using Obama's relationship with Wright to try to convince the superdelegates to vote for her? How about any time during the time the press was hounding Obama about Wright?

Nope, she sat there like the lying hypocrite she is, capitalizing on Obama's relationship with Wright while she herself had met with Wright as First Lady.

220. Bill likely didn't know (or care) what Rev. Wright, 1 of a 100 invited by WH aides
it wasn't the Clinton's that invited him. As with all public functions, the guests were hand picked by the President's staff. The simple fact is that Bill Clinton probably didn't know who was invited until the day before.

Or Bill Clinton and whatever aide invited him didn't know.

But hey, spin it as desperately as you can. I enjoy watching you spin yourself into a pretzel.

130. They have demonized this man--now they have to live with their association with him
But, of course, in Hillaryworld (which is a lot like BushJrWorld), others get criticized for what she herself is guilty of doing, and when she gets caught she lies and squirms and--if necessary--boohoos to spin it so that she is as innocent as the driven snow.

And her supporters buy it? I guess we know who were the Dems who voted for Bush Jr, no?

Remember her at the Baptist Church last year when she opened her remarks with, " I ain't in noooo ways tired."

Trying to sound like she was an African American.
We don't generally appreciate a non AA trying to talk like the gospel music. It doesn't sound right to most of our ears.

When I saw her do that I wanted to punch my TV.

Clinton Surrogate Says Questions on Wright Remain Unanswered

WASHINGTON (CNN) – As the uproar has unfolded over Barack Obama's former pastor, the Rev. Jeremiah Wright, the Clinton campaign has remained tight-lipped on the issue.

Top advisors to the campaign and Clinton herself have repeatedly refused to comment on the controversy, even as polls indicate the issue may be hurting the Illinois senator politically.

But Lanny Davis, a former special counsel to President Clinton and prominent surrogate of the New York senator, tackles the issue head on in a posting published Wednesday afternoon on the liberal Web site Huffington Post.

In the brief posting, Davis calls Obama's speech on the issue Tuesday "brilliant," but he says the Illinois senator has yet to answer two questions on the controversy that presumptive Republican nominee John McCain "will insist be answered in the fall."

274. Yep--we've seen what GWB does as president...Hillary's potential is yet unknown but very scary
She already uses his worst campaign tactics, and she voted to endorse nearly all of his worst policies. Clearly, she thinks like him and supports the same things he does.

Her potential for evils is nearly limitless, and if she is this bad now, she would be a monster unchecked in the Oval Office.

Did you like the secrecy of the Bush administration? What do you think we'd get with HRC.

Did you like the scare tactics of the Bush administration? She's already used those in her campaign.

Did you like the secret meetings and the stonewalling about producing documents about them? Well, Hillary did that as First Lady and is doing it now in her campaign.

There is so much more, but I think you get my drift...

182. Only if you still don't get it.
Wright is a treasured pastor to the congregation he built. Your knowledge of him consists of two minutes out of a thirty plus year career and those two minutes were chosen and spun by the rightwing media. And then flogged by the Clinton campaign who doesn't care what they destroy on their quest to capture the White House by any means.

What's really funny here is that Wright denounces the American government's predations on the people while Hillary Clinton's cult teaches that the elite Christians should rule the Earth.

And I thought irony was no longer possible.

If you think Hillary is going to make them play any nicer, you're out of your mind.

Besides - I'm sick and tired of Democrats basing their actions upon fear of what Republicans might say. That's the reason Hillary voted to go to war, among many other sins committed by the Dem party.

Enough of that. Screw fear of Republicans.

Addendum: Hillary using the Wright issue as a means to swing superdelegates is underhanded, sneaky, and Republican-like. It only reinforces the perception that she'll chew her own arm off to win the nomination.

122. What hypocrisy?
Where have the Clintons came out and attacked Wright, or his association with Obama?

FYI - 1998 was before 2001, before the "God damn America!" quote.

He wasn't Clinton's personal friend and pastor for over 20 years. He didn't marry the Clintons and he didn't baptise Chelsea.

He's not the Clinton's "moral compass".

He's not, or never was, a member of Clinton's campaign.

He was at an event 10 years ago. So what?

Where's the hypocrisy again?

And you know it.

He was at the White House for an event 10 years ago, prior to his most vitriolic comments. He doesn't have a long history with the Clintons, he hasn't been their pastor for 20 years, and they have not called him their moral compass.

This is like comparing apples to... uh... linguine.

The Clintons invited this man to the White House when Bill had to beg forgivenes for allowing Monica Lewinsky to give him a blow job in the Oval Office.

Obama has Religious ties to a man who was more good than bad. The Clintons, knowing full well the kind of church Wright pastored, invited him to the White House. The fact is, THEY KNOW REVEREND JEREMIAH WRIGHT personally. Jeremiah Wright received TWO presidential awards. He served under LBJ, YET, they are trying to use this situation for political gain. They have no morals. They have no boundaries. They have no political courage to stand up for what is WRIGHT.

Good for Hillary Clinton, using Rev. Now we are hearing discussion of the WJC Nookiegate again. Brilliant move, Hillary.

To quote another black leader, "They never did anything for us."

Your disgust is misplaced. It should be aimed at two manipulative, self serving politicans who tried to play the black community.

not a negative. And shame on you for spreading the smear of a good man and of a congregation that is a boon to their community.

This picture shows, beyond a shadow of a doubt, that the Clintons are self serving opportunists. When Bill needed the Reverend to cover for his zipper problem, Wright was welcomed. When Hillary needed to keep her tanking campaign afloat, they were happy to try to destroy this pastor.

You have gone off the deep end if you approve of this appalling mendacity.

or did they make the church sell videos of their services on it's website? Hell, there's even a memo from the Clinton camp stating that the Wright issue is off-limits.

"And shame on you for spreading the smear of a good man and of a congregation that is a boon to their community."

WTF are you talking about? Where in my post did I "smear" Wright?!? You sound unhinged and it seems like you're desperately throwing accusations around to take the heat off of Obama.

as pushing the Wright story on the media or publicly taking the Obama camp to task over it, neither of which the Clinton camp has done. On the other hand, the Obama camp certainly pushed Ferraro's ill-advised comments on the MSM and tried to get as much political mileage out of it as they could.

it was already on the net. His campaign pointed to Politico's article and the NYT picked it up I believe.

Anyway, it just shows that Wright is not a radical crazed anti-America nutcase like the MSM has tried to paint him. He is very well respected preacher and ex-marine who has received 3 presidential commendations. He just so happens to also be one of the preachers who came to the defense of Bill Clinton in 1998 when he was experiencing his Monica thing.

MetricSystem finally admits that yes, Hillary has been pushing the Wright issue in private to get superdelegates to turn to her, but then throws arms up in defense that this is "not the same as pushing the (Wright)controversy on the public". Well, golly, MetricSystem, you sure got us on that sticking point of why Hillary isn't a complete hypocrite - she only does it behind closed doors! Good one.

I know you're blinded by your love for your candidate but seriously, shameless? He's using his pastor? This is public information thrown out there by the media. Did you see Obama on the news last night showing that picture and spouting off "See, even the Clinton's liked my pastor.."? I know I didn't. The media is throwing it's own mud and trying to paint Obama as "strongly affiliated with a racist" so that he has less Democratic support. The media did the same thing with Ferraro and Clinton. It has obviously backfired this go round. Explain to me how this makes Obama shameless.

Why is it a Democrat can't just support their candidate without resorting to insulting the other? How are we ever going to defeat the GOP machine in November when we are at each others throats?

This is someone Obama still supports. How does showing another candidate's support of one of his friends constitute a weapon? It just shows that Wright must have been doing something right all those years. That maybe he isn't the "mean racist bigot" that the media would have you believe. The intent was not to show that "Clinton supports this racist bigot too." You totally missed the point of this release.
