On Hardball: Republicans For Obama See Past Rev. Wright Issue |
|
Edited on Thu Mar-20-08 06:50 PM by berni_mccoy
Susan Eisenhower and Lincoln Chaffee both saying Obama is the best hope for America. They say he's the best candidate of the three and represents the future. They say his judgement on the war far exceeds that of Clinton and McCain.
Also both said Clinton would cause the Republicans to unify their party and vote for McCain to prevent a Clinton presidency.
It was an awesome interview.
Can't wait for the YouTube posting.

56. What platform are you talking about? The OP is about a Hardball segment ... |
|
... where Susan Eisenhower was in the studio with Tweety, and Chafee was sitting in another studio elsewhere.
That they don't want Hillary to be the nominee is not questioned. That's why they're calling themselves "Republicans for Obama."
And I suspect that Ms. Susan Eisenhower might dispute your comment that she doesn't support women's rights. (You might want to read "What's the Matter with Kansas." You'd learn that it's these types of moderate Republicans that the far Right *really* hate.)

60. Very funny Re: Chafee's record.... |
|
Lincoln Chafee appears to have been a better Democrat than Hillary Clinton. Iraq
Chafee was the only Republican in the Senate to have voted against authorization of the use of force in Iraq. On June 22, 2006, Chafee was the only Republican to vote for the Levin amendment calling for a non-binding timetable for a withdrawal of US troops from Iraq. He voted against the Kerry-Feingold amendment calling for a binding timetable.
Abortion
Chafee strongly supports legal abortion. In May 2005, his senatorial re-election bid was endorsed by the traditionally Democratic-supporting NARAL Pro-Choice America due to his outspoken support for a woman's right to have an abortion. On October 21, 2003, Chafee was one of the three Republican Senators to oppose the Partial-Birth Abortion Ban Act, voting with the Senate Democrats. The bill passed 64-34, was sent to President George W. Bush for his signature, and became law on November 5, 2003. Chafee was a member of the Republican Majority for Choice and Republicans for Choice.
Stem cell research
Chafee is a member of the Republican Main Street Partnership and supports federal funding for embryonic stem cell research.
Gay rights
Chafee is a strong supporter of gay equality. He was the only Republican senator to have expressed support for same-sex marriage. In his 2006 reelection campaign he was endorsed by the prominent gay rights organization, the Human Rights Campaign.
Environment
Chafee favors strong environmental protection. He was one of the few Republicans to vote against allowing drilling in Arctic National Wildlife Refuge, and is a member of the Republicans for Environmental Protection. He has been endorsed throughout his career by the Sierra Club and the League of Conservation Voters.
Death penalty
Chafee strongly opposes the death penalty, and has consistently voted against limiting federal death penalty appeals, has favored including racial statistics in death penalty appeals, and a prerequisite of DNA analysis for all federal executions.
Tax policy
Chafee opposes eliminating the federal estate tax and voted against both the 2001 and 2003 federal tax cut bills. On November 17, 2005 he was the only Republican to vote in favor of reinstating the top federal income tax rate of 39.6% on upper-income payers.

33. I'm looking for it...in the meantime, why not enjoy this PIECE OF TRASH from their website? |
|
Republicans for Obama:
We need a leader who can lay the foundations of another American Century—someone who can get past our partisan and ideological divisions, as we strengthen our standing in the world and tackle the challenges we face at home. We need a leader who understands our differences, but who also knows the importance of finding common ground. While we continue to debate and address many issues on which we all have strong opinions—abortion, gay rights, the relationship between church and state, to name a few—we need a leader who can command the support needed to break our government’s paralysis and meet the growing challenges we face as a nation.
MY HIGHLIGHTS:
"ALTHOUGH WE ALL HAVE STRONG OPINIONS-ABORTION, GAY RIGHTS, THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN CHURCH AND STATE, TO NAME A FEW"......
Yeah just who we need in the DEMOCRATIC PARTY.

55. Of course they're not stating, in that sentence, any particular position on those issues ... |
|
... so I don't see the issue. They're not Conservative Right Wingers espousing anti-abortion, gay marriage bans, or amending the Constitution to reflect the Ten Commandments.
Knee-jerk opposition to a person simply because they're Republican is no better than the Republican 20%ers who have the same response to the label Democrat. A working majority is going to require working with reasonable Republicans, which will then begin the process of isolating the Conservative extremists.
And nobody is saying they're going to join the Democratic Party. They just realize that what they see on the other side isn't their parents' Republican Party (which wasn't all that great), and so are looking to work with a reasonable Democratic President to move the country forward -- and away from the last 16 years of Bush/Clinton partisanship.

|
Joe Scarborough or Lou Dobbs are continuing the hate talk on Obama. I look at the Rev. Wright issue as being generational and I believe Obama was trying to say that about his grandmother today also. People do come with preconceived cultural and generational issues. It is time to move on! I have emailed all these shows and told them enough on the Rev. Wright issue - let's move on!
There are so many important issues out there to look at. This country is going down fast! If someone would look at Obama's speech today that looked at the economy's ties to the War costs anyone can see Obama is the best hope for America! Kyle-Lieberman and the initial vote by HRC tells us where she will go if she is elected.

It amazes me that with so much evidence to the fact that he really is honestly bringing in a lot of Republicans, that some Clintonites still think it's BS or a conspiracy somehow.
Look... If people can be convinced of something as silly as a link between Iran and Al Qaeda, do you not think that they can be convinced of Democratic principles?
There are no true Republicans, only ignorant Democrats.
