Chris Wallace walks off Fox & Friends over Obama bashing
Edited on Fri Mar-21-08 01:01 PM by WesDem
I don't get Fox and I haven't watched the videos yet, but this might be fun.

http://wonkette.com/370704/civil-war-at-fox-news-over-obama-bashing

Edit: I've been corrected. It was Brian Kilmeade who walked and Chris Wallace who defended Obama.

TWO videos at the link; one of them below the fold.

But yes, Kilmeade walked off the set, but it had nothing to do with Obama.

46. It's hard to tell
One of the co-hosts jokingly called him "a typical sports guy" and then he stormed off. It was clear before he left that he was frustrated with the lack of intelligence shown by his co-hosts, but the storming off could have also been meant as a joke respons to the "the typical sports guy" comment. I would have been more satisfied with a "This network's a fucking joke. I quit.", but I'll still have to dream.

27. Could be
and I say that only because I tend to be cautious in jumping to accusations. It definitely is an attack originating from the right wing. They are the ones to fan the flames. I think they want to knock Obama out of the Democratic primary race so Hillary will be the nominee because they think (and I think erroneously so) they can beat Hillary easily in November. McCain may or may not know about it.

18. It just goes to show how beyond the pale
Fox News is on this subject. I happen to view and listen to Fox News off and on because it's my elderly mother's favorite "news" source during the day (I switch to MSNBC and CNN at nights). I have an office in her house and I overhear what's being said on Fox. It really is over-the-top how they are insisting on making Obama's pastor the biggest issue of the year. I think it also goes to show how well-thought of Obama is. Fox is trying to pin something on him that isn't sticking.

Bill lost his cool during that interview. Very few people are able to do that. Bill is always calm, cool, and collected. Wallace shook him.

Anyway, I would hardly call that "Bill handing Wallace his ass."

Wallace is a weasel, but Bill looked awful in that interview.

'Handed him his ass' might be too strong but my impression at the time (and I haven't actually viewed the video since then) is that Bill lost his cool in a very calculated way and Wallace seemed shaken.

61. "Bill lost his cool in a very calculated way"
If Wallace looked shaken at all, it was because Bill had turned bright red and was waving his finger in his face.

Like you, it's been a long time since I've seen it, but honestly, I was a little embarassed for him when I first saw it. I've always been proud of Bill as the type of guy who was covered in Teflon. Too cool for school. But Wallace got through somehow.

Anyway, I don't have a point other than the whole interview was more of a spectacle than anything, and neither of them really looked impressive or won, per se.

:hi: I agree. While this last week has been quite contentious, the fact that people on FOX news, of all places are battling it out, demonstrates just how essential the dialog that Obama began with his More Perfect Union speech. I'm convinced now more than ever, that the seeds have been planted, and great things can come from all of this, but the mudslinging isn't over, not for a long time, but the seeds have sprouted.

Well, it's heartening to see a thoughtful and contrary opinion voiced every once in a while. The "Friends" were clearly not happy with the criticism. From their expressions, I couldn't tell if they were more shocked and embarrassed at having been called out or more angry that Chris Wallace wasn't toeing the line.

and I think it upset them that one of the other puppets didn't toe the line and made them look...well like they were acting. They know what is right and wrong but they get paid big to do wrong. Didn't I just see a post recently on DU about how doctors and other professionals took part in the holocaust, just imagine how they would have felt if one of their own called them out on what they were doing but on a national stage for all of their family and friends to see. People don't like it when they are called out on something they themselves realize is wrong but do it for other reasons. Money!

Fuck the media whores!

A little of that "hope" Obama speaks of.

This delight in being able to slam Obama again and again with the pastor Wright story is just so evident in the Fox newscasts that I really do believe at least a few, maybe just these 2, are fed up with it.

47. Fox Memo:
In lieu of changing public opinion, we at Fox news must now soften our image. O'Reilly's one hour program will now be reduced to half an hour, and must include attacks on moderate conservatives like the kkk and American nazi party, this will be followed by a half hour of Bill O'Reilly's new show: Keith Olbermann is Right. Producers have been informed to change the title of Hannity & Colmes, to Colmes & Hannity.

Obama campaign praises Wallace, says Fox has been "deeply irresponsible"

From the campaign's blog:

We appreciate Chris Wallace for doing his job as a tough but fair journalist on a network that has been deeply irresponsible over the last week in its unrelenting and sensationalistic coverage of Sen. Obama.

Sen. Obama gave the speech he did on Tuesday because he believes that Americans are ready for a thoughtful, mature discussion about race, and are hungry to move past media-generated controversies that distract from the struggles they face in their everyday lives.

If Fox News wants to play clips of the same offensive sound bites every day from now until November, that's their right, but that type of coverage does a disservice to their viewers and to a nation that is facing serious challenges that merit thoughtful and honest reporting.

In fact, last week on Fox News Sunday, which he hosts, Wallace started an Obama clock counting the days, hours, and minutes it has been since Obama was invited on (or said he'd come on) FNS. It was incredibly obnoxious and I'm sure Wallace has heard about it from the campaign.
