Libertarians seek Barr candidacy
By Ralph Z. Hallow
The Washington (batshit Moonie) Times

March 20, 2008

Former Rep. Bob Barr of Georgia is considering a third-party presidential run — a bid that could steal support from Republican John McCain and potentially offset the damage Ralph Nader"s candidacy is predicted to have on the Democratic candidate. Mr. Barr, a House Republican impeachment manager during President Clinton's administration, yesterday confirmed his interest in running as a Libertarian but said he is unwilling to talk about any "polling we may have done or may do, not at this point."

"There is great deal (of) dissatisfaction with the candidates for the two major parties, particularly among conservatives, but also a great deal of Internet and other support for a candidate like Ron Paul who advocates libertarian and true conservative principles," said Mr. Barr, who is now a Libertarian.

Activists have started a Facebook campaign to draft Mr. Barr for the Libertarian Party nomination.

19. Barr would take on all the disappointed Ron Paul supporters
that seem to flourish around here. I hope Barr IS the Libertarian candidate,as he has name recognition. My plan during the main primary season is to talk to folks I know won't vote Dem and to persuade them to vote Libertarian. Barr is one who will be easy to research and talk about to these folks.

26. why would you apologize for the source? That just feeds...
the craziness on DU that there are "good" and "evil" sources -- though the name tags keep switching depending on whether the source says something that pleases the poster or not. The Washington Times broke the Obama passport story -- is that bad? The Times gave us this terrific possibility -- is that bad? I'm glad you posted this; glad to know this nugget of information; why apologize?

Edited on Fri Mar-21-08 09:16 PM by BecauseBushSaysSo
If McCain has too many more "Senior Moments" Barr will start looking good to a lot of Republicans. Bob Barr and Bob Dornan have some POW shit on McCain and it's on the net so if it gets legs McCain could drop out. Obama will be able to kick McCain's ass. I don't care what the polls show now but by November I think Obama will win. But Bob Barr was the head cheerleader for Impeachment of Bill. He is no Ralph Nadar. He is well recognized and to some respected.

Hey, if they can try fucking with our primary results (lots of republi-CONS in Texas obeying limbaugh and voting for Clinton), why can't we? I think they would do very nicely with a taste of their own medicine.

34. That would rock!
In a perfect world, Ron Paul would run as their candidate, but his priority is hanging on to his seat in Congress, so he won't run for prez as a Libertarian. His grassroots following is much more desirable to them than running the angry tavern owner du jour like they seem to do in every election.

Barr is the next best thing.

35. He won't.
You know he won't. And if he tried the RNC is FAR more ruthless and willing to assert power than the democrats have. You have to know that if the democrats had done what the republicans will do, Liebermann wouldn't be in D.C.

Barr/Paul - its a WINNING team!

McCain just needs to have a few more senior moments where he forgets who the "enemy" is and I think its a done deal. Barr will step up. Maybe others?
