Weren't some DUers crowing about Edwards endorsing Hillary? What happened? Omentum?

As of now Obama is the only one to receive the endorsements of former presidential candidates.

Edwards unlikely to endorse
By DAVID PAUL KUHN | 3/21/08 6:25 PM EST

John Edwards is unlikely to endorse either Barack Obama or Hillary Clinton before the nomination is decided, according to interviews with several members of the former candidate's inner circle.

At least three individuals who have recently spoken to Edwards expect that he will choose to stay out of the fight, though they warn that no one other than his wife, Elizabeth, can be certain of his thinking.

“My gut instinct, at this point: He’s probably going to remain neutral and sort of try to play on that Al Gore status as party elder,” said a former Edwards operative who is in regular contact with the former North Carolina senator and who asked that his name be withheld.

“There is a real space for him to be an advocate for the issues that he cares about but also to play a role as a party elder,” he continued. “I think he is, at this point, probably going to take the route of 'We got two great candidates, let the people decide.'”

3. No one can speak for John. I have always hoped he might NOT endorse.
But if he does, I am resonably sure it wouldn't be Obama. Health care is a real issue and so is Labor and Obama votes have not been good. Hillary at leat has the right health care plan. Still . he is probably not going with either and I don't blame him.

5. Party elder? He was in the Senate for ONE term, and he spent a lot of it
campaigning for Prez and then Vice Prez. Then he was out of politics except for preparing to run again.
How did he become a party elder?

8. I would say two viable presidential runs, with significant party and grassroot support. . .
. . .through out the country, not to mention is run for VP makes him an elder.

10. Not compared to MANY other like Biden, Kennedy, Dodd, Kucinich,
Boxer, Richardson. He only actually won once.

14. well in those two runs he won just one primary
or 2 if you count nc but that was after Kerry was the defacto nominee. Consider after 2004, the party did not consider Kerry a party elder - and he came 59,000 votes from being President. People speak of Kerry becoming one - and he is running for his 5th term.

It also means he is no longer contending for the nomination.
