Who is the leader of the democratic party? |
|
I don't mean the leader of the DNC, I mean the leader of the party.
To illustrate, GW is clearly the leader of the republican party right now. Ol' Ronnie was the leader of the party for years. Maybe after the election GW will no longer be the leader of the party, and it will transfer to McCain.
So who is our leader? Clinton? Carter? Gore? Kerry? Dean? Edwards? Hillary? Obama? Or someone else?

5. One person on her today said that the Clintons were "The Democratic Party" itself. |
|
I'm not really sure what they meant by that though.

11. That actually sort of prompted this post |
|
I was thinking that part of the insult of this election is that not only would Hillary not be the president, but the Clintons would no longer be the party leaders.

8. The Democratic Party is structured like the old Politburo in Russia |
|
Many important people, few real leaders.
Thats what makes the super delegates so powerful this year.

10. No one. And I question whether GW is a leader; I think he's being |

told what to say, and does it badly. Pinocchio?

16. Because we don't have a General Secretary, technically nobody. Acting presidents usually get... |
|
deference, as are nominees. Former presidents is a sticky issue. Traditionally former presidents have tried not to be actively involved in the selection of candidates beyond their own VP.

17. I told my daughter how we are fighting here on DU over the candidates |
|
and she said "That is okay, Mom, we are Democrats." I think that may explain why we do not have any one leader.

18. I think the fact there's no obvious answer is why things are so divided right now |
|
There was no clear favorite a year ago (Clinton had name recognition and fundraising power but already had high negatives). Things are still divided.
While this has always been a 2-party country, the 2 parties have changed names, swapped policies, been replaced, etc. We may be seeing this change right now.
