The only reason Richardson endorsed Obama is because he knows Obama
is going to win and he wants a spot on in the new Administration. If he thought Hillary was going to win, he would have endorsed her.

2. Minimize it all you want, as long as it helps you deal with the pain of losing.

7. Actually, I believe the OPer is pro Obama
At least I seem to remember he was posting that way several times in the last several days.

4. Good point. I was asking myself. What too him so long to endorse anyone?
I agree with your theory that he was waiting until one of the candidate had the nomination secure, as is now clear with Obama.
If he endorse Clinton or Obama say, 2 months ago, he was risking not being given a position in the government. Now the chances are 99% or more.

8. Pretty cynical speculation. He has a great job as a VERY popular Gov. and already been in admin.

9. Nah, Then He Would Have Waited Longer
like Edwards is to be sure. Actually, I think it is probably a very hard choice for them to make. That said, I think Richardson made the right decision.

11. Richardson will milk it to be sure - but at some point it became personal for him
As the leading Hispanic in the Dem party I think he was pretty much guaranteed a cabinet position no matter who won.

12. Isn't it possible that....
...he elected to endorse Obama for the same reasons many of us have chosen who we have opted to support? Namely that he agrees with him on positions, finds him to be inspirational, and thinks he'll be a good President?

But I'd like to think he sees more in Obama than a career opportunity

..and as a close friend of the Clintons that must really hurt the Clintons...
it's all politics and i respect Bill R. for seeing the light that the Clintons are a lost cause in all of this.

18. I think he has decided it's time for SD's to bring this thing to a close,
so the party can get on with defeating McCain. I think he had a tough choice but probably ultimately didn't regret that Obama was the logical choice at this point, having the most pledged delegates and popular vote.

19. Richardson won't take just ANY cabinet position.
But he'd take SOS in a heartbeat -- and Obama just may offer it to him.

I think Obama has turned a corner this week. I have several family members, male and female, civilian and military, who have been strong for Hillary -- because they want Bill back, I think -- and each of them independently has told me they think Hillary continuing is now hurting the party. This is huge in my estimation, because a couple of these people I NEVER expected to see move to Obama, and yet they are dipping their toes in the water and will soon jump on in.

I think Richardson framed the election by saying that Obama is a once in a lifetime candidate -- and the torch has passed to a new generation. At least that's how I see it.

20. maybe as former UN ambassador he got tired of Hillary
calling herself the foreign policy face for the Clinton admin. I just don't know how he stood it early in the campaign.

Richardson is already qualified for many admin posts and doesn't need Hillary or Obama for his political career - he's already way more experienced than either of them.

And remember, his supporters made deals with Obama's way back in Iowa.
