Motion to ban the phrase "Thrown Under The Bus" |
|
Please. I can't take it. I must have read this phrase in 200 posts tonight, from all manner of posters. This lemming-like lack of creativity must be destroyed.
I implore you, find some other term to express disappointment at a lifelong allegiance cast aside. We are Democrats! We're the smart party. Let the Republidoofuses hammer three or four talking points into powder.
Please muthafuckas!

How about: tossed under the wheels of the internal-combustion mass conveyance? On second thought, never mind.

5. How about an alternative, first. |
|
It is such a useful and evocative phrase!
I can't think of any, at the moment.

6. Hey, that STRAIGHT TALK EXPRESS is a bus. I LIKE the term! |
|
It's a nice change from "stuck a knife in his/her back and twisted it" or some of the more old-fashioned ways of expressing what happens when someone is trashed, dumped, abandoned, disavowed, rejected, refuted, betrayed or separated.

8. Alright, lets get to the bottom of this. |
|
Thrown under the bus: An individual is sacrificed, put "under" a larger group of people who are going their way on the bus. The term talks about grinding an individual under the "wheels" of the majority. Alternatives???
Sacrificed to the ____ God Crucified for the sins of the _____ people Made to carry the piss bucket for all. Cannibalized made into sausage for the baseball game.
(Where __ represents the relevant "bus" majority)
Some piss poor attempts, but attempts all the same: You need an an alternative term for "thrown under the bus" because its meaning is pretty unique.

Especially when it's an opinion piece or an article that's three months old.

Ever since the phrase "in harm's way" appeared in a bush speech a couple of years ago, the MSM has been going crazy with it. Before the speech, I don't think I'd heard it in years.
I've even heard the word "internets" used in a serious context a few times.
