Do Libertarians like Obama?
Edited on Sat Mar-22-08 10:00 AM by Prefer
The thing is, Obama is a man of principle and Libertarians seem to care a lot about principle. I could see how standing up for things would be attractive for them and also change, they don't like the status quo. The other thing I think is that once you get outside the big tents, people aren't all that different in their views, or at least the fringes have areas of overlap.

1. There are different kinds of Libertarians...
There are Liberal Libertarians, Conservative Libertarians and just plain Opportunist Libertarians. Most of them are self-serving, so who knows how they're thinking at any given time?

2. I agree. I've always seen libertarianism as more of a mind-set
than a political stance. From anarchists to anti-government conservatives, the common mind set is 'me first'.

11. I think all ideologies are mostly a mind set and a matter of personality.
But yes, Libertarianism is the ultimate "me" philosophy which is what makes it the most conservative ideology.

4. I could see certain libertarians switching to Obama, but not the majority.........
Those that want transparency in government will cross over, others will move to the rethugs.

It all depends on their ideology. Those that claim to be objectivists will move right.

7. No, they like Ron Paul. On domestic issues Obama is diametrically opposed to any libertarian.

12. That's not really true
On domestic economic issues they'd be opposed to him, but most libertarians would support him on domestic social issues like abortion and gay rights. Ron Paul was anti-choice and anti-gay but although he attracted a lot of libertarians he said himself that he considered himself more of a constituionalist than a libertarian.

Edited on Sat Mar-22-08 11:49 AM by Radical Activist
I don't get it. I gave up on Libertarians making logical sense a long time ago. He's supporting Obama over McCain now though.
