Will the nomination be decided in June or August?
Edited on Sat Mar-22-08 12:29 PM by NJSecularist
Will the superdelegates make their decisions on who to commit to in June or will they drag this process out until late August, when the Democratic National Convention in Colorado takes place?

The last primaries are on June 3, when both Montana and South Dakota vote. It's possible that soon thereafter the superdelegates will coalesce around a candidate (most likely Obama) and give him the nomination then. That would give us 6 months to prepare for the general election, which is more than enough time.

Or will a nominee be picked at the convention, which is held in Late August, and only give us 3 months before the general election to prepare?

2. Your math (months of time) is off. My guess is it is decided in July.
It drags on after the primaries are over but does not go to the convention.

4. My concern is the convention bounce
With the DNC and RNC just a week apart, our nominee won't have time to build a tremendous wave the way Bill Clinton did in 1992. It was crazy holding the convention so late but yeah I know the olympics caused that. But what if Mccain announces his VP the Friday after our nominee gives the acceptance speech? Mccain gets his bounce and we don't get any. How can we combat that?

10. It's not crazy to hold the convention in Late August
In 2004, we held it early and got burned when Kerry chose to use public financing. We had to stretch out our post-convention money over 13 weeks while Bush and the RNC held their convention 5 weeks later and used the same amount of money in only 8 weeks.

5. You are right. My bad. It is 6 months and 3 months, respectively.

6. I'm hoping that it's no later than June.
Either way, it would be a step in the right direction if Clinton and Obama would focus more attention on McSame.

8. We'll have a presumptive nominee in May.
When Clinton loses North Carolina and Indiana, she will bow out.

11. I doubt it. She still has West Virginia and Kentucky after that.

12. We may have a presumptive nominee by then
But despite that, Clinton may still choose to continue her doomed campaign anyway.

Once the result is clear to the SDs--we waste valuable energy and resources on this nomination battle.
