BREAKING: Obama Announces Major New Endorsement

Senator Barack Obama today announced a new and powerful endorsement in his campaign for the Democratic Presidential nomination - that of himself.

"I made the decision last week," Obama said, "But my recent speech on race relations has reassured me: I am the one I have been waiting for."

Obama further explained that he seriously considered endorsing Hillary Clinton, but was unhappy with her recent negative campaign tactics. He described the telephone conversation in which he told the Clintons about his endorsement as "heated."

"Bill Clinton, much as I respect him, appears to believe that I owe him a debt of gratitude since he, as the first black President, blazed the trail I am following." Obama said. However," he continued, "I believe that I am a stronger candidate against John McCain in the general election, and that is part of the reason that I, Barack Obama, am endorsing myself, Barack Obama for President.

Obama's self-endorsement caps off a week during which he announced another important endorsement - that of New Mexico governor Bill Richardson. Several high-ranking Democrats are still uncommitted in the nomination fight. John Edwards is expected to endorse Hillary Clinton before the North Carolina primary. Former Vice President Al Gore's intentions are unknown, and Bill Clinton is expected to endorse John McCain.
