Obama/Richardson?
Thoughts?

Would Richardson help neutralize the "inexperienced" and "won't protect America" memes?

1. Richardson is angling for Secretary of State, and he'd be a good choice for that position. n/t

5. Nah, he's already been in the cabinet. And I want John Kerry for Sec of State
or Secretary of Defense.

19. We can take one from Massachusetts
Democratic governor, and a huge bench of Democratic House members who have been itching to run for years. I don't think it would be hard to retain Kerry's seat.

3. Perfect
I have been calling for this for the last 3 months. Richardson would be the perfect VP choice for Obama. Great resume, and could help prevent any defections among Latinos.

I don't see it happening anymore.

6. I'm sure I'll get slammed for this...
but if he is going to win the popular vote, maye a white guy from the south is the best option. I love Richardson and he was my first choice for POTUS, but I just think that ticket's kind of a loser...I agree with the previous poster though, secretary of state would be great for him!

11. Oh, she'd take it.
And he shouldn't offer it. But if it goes through June, anything can happen.

This is the longshot I'll bet on.

10. Certainly Might Help With The Hispanic Vote In The General !!!
From NOW: The Latino Vote 2008

The booming Hispanic population in political swing states is creating opportunities and headaches in both political parties as they try to court the Latino vote. NOW on PBS travels to Florida just weeks before its important primary to examine Republican tactics to win over Hispanic Americans. A fifth of Florida's residents are Hispanic, and Republicans are scoring points on traditional issues of faith and national security. But at the same time, they're frustrating Latinos with what many of them see as harsh anti-immigrant rhetoric.

Who has the winning approach?

14. He needs a VP that will also appeal to HRC voters.
So you will start hearing: "I am not voting in the GE because of Obama but because of his VP".

But didn't he say in some TV interviews that he liked being Governor.

20. That's my guess. I'd like to see Obama/Feingold--- Obama/Boxer has a lot of appeal...
But I wouldn't be surprised to see Obama/Richardson. Richardson has executive experience, he won't drop us down another vote in the Senate, and he could have pull with the Southwest and Hispanic voters.

Makes a lot of sense.

22. Can I be really tacky here?
I was just watching an old live Chappelle act on HBO from like 2001 or something and he was talking about the possibility of the first black president. And Chappelle said he wouldn't want to be the first black president, because there would be all the haters. But if he were, he'd pick a Hispanic guy as vice president because then nobody would knock him off. I wish I could find the clip, it was really funny and it just made me think of where we are today. :D

23. would be a kick ass ticket
Richardson did well in the Primary of defending the other candidates during debates and other things. i think he would fit the role of VP very well. he has already done well calling out the bs against Obama.

and yes, the experience factor helps also.

25. I agree.
It concerns me a little that it would be an "all-minority" ticket, but I think the positives might outweigh the negatives. I'm no good at political handicapping anyway, so from where I sit, it would be a GREAT ticket.

28. I thought that is why Richardson endorsed Obama because there was some
agreement between them. An offer for a VP slot would do it. I personally don't think it would be a strong ticket, because Obama needs a stronger VP if he is the nominee. Richardson is a great man, but a terrible debater can you imagine him in the GE against whoever McCain puts up against him. The Republicans will play dirty.

30. That's what I was thinking. Great VP in substance, but not in style. But it also...
But it also depends on who McCain chooses as VP. If he chooses a similar VP (substance, but not so great in debating, etc.), then Richardson might do fine.

...think VP matters to that degree that it would effect the front runner to that negative of a degree.

I would really like to see Richardson as VP, but I don't think its likely, Obama is going to be pressured to pick an older white male with military experience.
