Happy Easter
Edited on Sat Mar-22-08 11:48 PM by dmesg
All DU'ers who follow the western calendar, happy Easter! Those who believe that Christ is risen, rejoice in that. I hope anyone who does not believe so can still rejoice in others' joy at the season, and particularly at the fact that the Sun is once again rising above the tropic, bringing light and warmth to those of us in this half of the world. Though let us not forget that our siblings in the South of the globe now face their winter.

For any Orthodox friends here or others who follow the Eastern calendar, I believe your Lent has just begun so I wish you a thoughtful and meaningful season of fast and sacrifice before a similar joy in a little over a month.

For any Jewish friends here, passover will be in a few weeks so I wish you a contemplative and meaningful season of reflection on God's choice of your nation and your sacrifices, history, and inviolable sense of community that have lasted for millenia.

To any Muslim friends here, I understand many of you celebrate Mawlid during Rabi'al-awal, and I wish you the joy of the birth of your prophet and his mission of mercy to mankind.

To any pagans, wiccans, and other followers of the Old Ways, I wish you the joy of the Sun's triumph over winter and the eternal re-affirmation of life that this season represents.

And finally, on a base cultural note, I hope any who wish can enjoy a chocolate rabbit. The ears are the yummiest part :)

(Edit: this is in GDP on the vain hope of bringing some joy to a place where it hasn't lately been.)

On edit again: wow, despite dating a wonderful woman from India, I managed to forget Holi! Sorry about that! All Hindu friends here I wish you the joy of colors, life, and spring and hope this season brings you good fortune and happiness.

Final edit: please mention below other joyous seasons I have neglected!

4. Thank you for your attempt to bring some civility back
It's a big weekend, with Purim a few days ago, Holy Week for Christians, and the commemoration of the Prophet's birth for our Muslim friends, as well as spring finally arriving (although you wouldn't know it here in central Illinois). Maybe once we starting getting some good sunlight, and some Purim booze or Kosher wine or Easter ham and casserole in us, we'll start acting civil to each other again.

I just don't know much about it, and didn't want to put my foot in my mouth. There's enough of that here, you know?

9. was going to make a thread, but since I see yours,
Happy Easter to YOU and all believers on DU. He IS Risen!

To any other DUers reading this thread, we love you the same, and pray for peace for our country, please have positive thoughts or prayers for the same. This country is bruised and heavily battered under the vicious control of the neo-conservatives. November cannot come fast enough.

John 3:16 For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that W*H*O*S*O*E*V*E*R believes in Him shall not perish but have everlasting life!

We all have an inner spirit and conscience we think and have feelings with, in fact, you're doing it right now by reading this, and our lives should be treated with great respect - we need these warmongers out of office!

Thanks for the post!

11. Merry Crossmas... by Slate.
http://www.slate.com/id/2186633/

Despite the awesome theological implications (Christians believe that the infant lying in the manger is the son of God), the Christmas story is easily reduced to pablum. How pleasant it is in mid-December to open a Christmas card with a pretty picture of Mary and Joseph gazing beatifically at their son, with the shepherds and the angels beaming in delight. The Christmas story, with its friendly resonances of marriage, family, babies, animals, angels, and—thanks to the wise men—gifts, is eminently marketable to popular culture. It's a Thomas Kinkade painting come to life.

On the other hand, a card bearing the image of a near-naked man being stripped, beaten, tortured, and nailed through his hands and feet onto a wooden crucifix is a markedly less pleasant piece of mail.

I love Christ... he has such a cleaver sense of irony. I'm glad they couldn't kill him and through the greater miracle, I'm glad he was able to be reborn in us... Happy Easter.

12. Bravo!
As a Christian, I usually write a "Lenten Journey" for six weeks and send daily thoughts out to a select group of my email addy friends and relatives. I was struggling tonight on how to end the Journey with something that would make a big impact on them as we celebrated the close of our Easter season. Before I opened my email program, I decided to come by here to DU. This is the first thing I found. Needless to say, this post was then sent as my final entry and what a powerful entry it has become.

Thank you for reminding us that we are all in the same boat together and becoming a global community faster than we think. And, also, for reminding us that the WORLD is watching our election (and us here on DU) as this post proves.

Thank you for enlightenment..... :grouphug:
