Party time. Conversations at a liberal party.
Edited on Sun Mar-23-08 12:12 PM by Neshanic
Being old as I am, and part of the boomer generation I don't get around much anymore, but I was at a dinner party. The main items can be summed up below.

The majority wants Clinton out of the race NOW. This week preferably.

McCain will win the general election.

The GE will be a McGovern redux.

McCain will propose a draft sometime in 2010.

The room was Obama supporters, except me and another person.

The republicans will pull out all the stops to get McCain elected, with nasty ads that will pale in comparison to anti-Kerry.

We will have comfortable control of the Senate and Congress.

McCain will be more socially moderate than any republican could imagine in their worst nightmares.

The fight for the SC appointments will be rough.

Obama is sometimes his own worst enemy.

Obama supporters admit that they as a group are utterly irrational at times.

Disgust of the Democratic party and the inability to impeach Bush is a huge issue(other generationally/age challenged Nixon era people there), with total and unanimous revulsion of Pelosi.

Dean may want to look for another job later.

Added on edit: socially.

1. I haven't supported anybody through the primaries in '04 or '08
but, I agree that McCain is the heavy favorite against anybody... the media is rarely critical of him and has shown no signs of changing.

10. It's a gnawing fear I have that McCain just might win.
And I NEVER thought we might have to be concerned about winning the GE this time around! I felt our win was pretty much a given.

4. Just what you wanted to hear, and selectively ignore the GE outcome.

Barack Obama will win the presidency. I will buy you a DU star if he doesn't

But I would like to know what your friends said about Hillary. You left that part out.

7. No, that's okay
I'm sure you got an earful. I just find it interesting that you paint the opinions of your friends as Obama supporters who have no faith that their candidate will win in the fall. That doesn't make sense.

11. Amazing. "That doesn't make sense." That pretty much sums up one of the items on the list.
See "Obama supporters".

14. You question some Obama supporters that have concerns he will lose
no matter what. Some thought, not all at the party.

Leave room in that little life-boat. You are going to need it later.

3. I disagree about McCain's strength
He's a doddering old fool and will be eaten alive after the dems quit squabbling.

8. Hello. Why do you think the media worked so hard to rid themselves of
John Edwards.. He was the only one who was favorably above McCain in the polls. AND he is 10 times more progressive and compassionate than the remaining corpratists.

15. The last word of your post is why. The corporate media excluded the anti-corporate candidate.

9. Sounds like the same old talk
that have been at a liberal party for years, which is why we always get hammered at big elections.

and Hillary be no means is getting out "NOW". If she goes into the GE she is going to bury McCain. If Obama goes into the GE, people will be pulling McCain off of Obama with a McCain TKO victory. In the GE people aren't going to be able to say "McCain should get out now" but they will be saying "Can't anyone stop the horrible things being said about Obama? Why is America turning on Obama? Why isn't Obama fighting back?"

My favorite thing about parties is all the talk talk talk talk
