You can place a mod on ignore, but they can over-ride it.
You can't ignore the subjects on the home page, but the posts won't open as long as you have the poster on ignore.

On Sunday evening I empty the list and start letting everything get through again. There are about 3 folks who always seem to get back on it by sometime Monday or early Tuesday. I've considered just leaving them on the list, but decided to let them earn their way back on each week. One person who used to be on it regularly avoided it last week. I wouldn't mention the name (even if I could) as it would probably cause the person some minor discomfort to realize that I've experienced his/her behavior to have changed slightly :-).
on edit - I'd probably not use the Ignore function at all if it were possible to hide a thread from the forum listing and just have it disappear without going through another link and having to go back to the listing.)

I put people on it, get up to 5 or 6 over the course of a few months, then purge them from my "ignore" list.
When I put people on ignore, it's more for my sanity, before I lose it and write something I'd regret. (Not that I always ignore people in time.)

Sometimes it is the only reasonable thing to do. In any large group it's only natural to have a few personality conflicts. In real life we learn to avoid people every now and then, why wouldn't it be the same in cyberspace?
